Premier esports entertainment company Allied Esports has announced that they have sold off the World Poker Tour (WPT) to investment firm Element Partners.

The deal entails Element buying off Allied Esports' poker-related business and assets for an astounding amount of US$78.25 million. The company has also announced that it intends to "explore strategic options" for its esports business.

It appears that Las Vegas Sands is eyeing a move to the online gaming world, and is considering acquiring or teaming up with one of London's online gaming specialists, much like what its rivals MGM and Caesars have done.

A small business owner and poker player in Connecticut has pleaded guilty to one count of tax evasion. The man faces a maximum jail time of up to five years.

Guy Smith, age 62, of Shelton, Connecticut has waived his right to be indicted earlier this December. He pled guilty instead to tax evasion on his business income and winnings from poker. According to the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Connecticut, Smith owns Centerline Interiors LLC, a commercial interior construction business, but his main income came from playing in poker tournaments within the country.
