Every month, the sports site ESPN writes a column on their website called "The Nuts" where they list who they think the top 10 poker players in the world are at the moment. If one look back at previous months of "The Nuts", it stands clear that Phil Ivey is the big favorite (maybe not such a big surprise to anyone?). Anyhow, here are the top 10 players+comments for February 2010

The long awaited PartyPoker Premier League IV is not far away now! Lots of pros are going to take part this year, which will make it super-interesting to follow. Just to mention a few of the most notable players that are going to take part, Phil Laak, David Benyamine, Daniel Negreanu, Vanessa Rousso, Phil Hellmuth and Tony G. Unfortunately, Doyle Brunson announced a few days ago that he was pulling out of the tournament because he's about to have a 5 1/2 hour long surgery on his teeth and gums and therefore won't recover in time.
PartyPoker Premier League IV will run between 12 and 18 February and will for sure be one of the most exciting and thrilling tournaments this year! 2 days to go before the action kicks off!

As previously described, unfortunately someone shared the no-deposit bonus link on a Romanian bonus page, which resulted in a massive bonus abuse with EuroPoker.

Even though the majority of the biggest names in poker can be found in the U.S. today, there are still plenty of good players in the Nordic countries as well. To honor the top players from Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, PokerStars is once again arranging the Nordic Poker awards (previously Scandinavian Awards) before the EPT stop in Copenhagen, Denmark, February 15.
The 3 biggest names among the poker players who have been nominated this year are Peter Eastgate (Denmark), Patrik Antonius (Finland), Ilari Sahamies (Finland). All three of them won an award each last year.

When NAPT (North American Poker Tour) makes a stop at The Venetian, Las Vegas, PokerStars will try a new type of HighRoller Bounty shootout tournament. The buy-in for the new tournament will be $25,000 of which $5000 will go to the bounty prize pool. In other words, if you knockout a player - you will get $5000. Anyhow, one player from each table (10 players - sit & go tables) will make it to the next table and fight for a piece of the prize pool. PokerStars will give the one who takes home the most bounty's extra $100,000.
According to PokerStars, the pros they have been talking to so far are very positive to the new tournament. And who knows, maybe EPT and WPT will start arranging similar tournaments if the turnout is good at the Venetian?

After almost 1 week of play, Borgata Winter Open (not longer part of World Poker Tour), one of Americas biggest live tournaments, had finally found its winner, Jeff Madsen. Jeff Madsen defeated a starting field of 766 players, which included some really big names (Gavin Smith & Jason Mercier just to mention 2). For the win, Madsen received $625,006. Now he has won almost $3 million dollars from different live tournaments and also got the best possible start on the new year.
Jeff Madsen info: Jeff Madsen was born June 7, 1985 in Santa Monica, California. He made a name for himself back in 2006 when he won 2 WSOP bracelets and also ended up in 3rd place in 2 other WSOP events. Thanks to the great results in 2006 WSOP, he's the third-youngest winner of a WSOP event.

Not less than 9031 players paid the buy-in of $200+$15 and took part in the world’s most popular online tournament yesterday, PokerStars Sunday Million. Thanks to the big starting field, not less than $1,806,200 was up for grabs.
The final table was very interesting and thrilling this time. When there were 6 players left, they all had about the same amount of chips left. This is quite unusual thing to see on a final table. Anyhow, it came to be the player "palurdo" who took home the tournament at the end. For the win he received $257,930.

There are plenty of options when it comes to depositing money into a poker account these days. Credit card, Neteller, Moneybookers, bank transfer etc. The list could be made really long. However, the easiest and fastest way of depositing money is usually with a credit card. We'll, not if you live in the U.S.
MasterCard has figured out the method of uncoding gambling transactions for U.S. customers. This will most probably cause a lot of problems for U.S. poker players and poker sites accepting U.S players since Neteller and many other depositing methods already have been blocked. This is not the first time MasterCard has found out the uncoding process. First time, however, it only took online gaming sites about 2 months to find a way to get around the problem. It will be interesting to see what they do this time.

Not long ago, a player at Cake Poker was awarded a pot he didn't win. The player who lost the pot (with the best hand) shortly after posted the hand in different forums and received lots of feedback and questions from angry and worried Cake Poker players. However, it didn't take long before Cake Poker took action and said that they would take down the server for 30 minutes and look into the problem. Yesterday, Cake Poker Cardroom manager Lee Jonas answered some of the major questions they had gotten about the hand.

It wasn't a long time ago since Jonas "Nebuchad Danielsson, one of Sweden's best online poker players, wrote in his blog that he had decided to quit poker and do something else instead. The reason for this was that he had lost his interest in playing poker and also his edge the few times he played.
Now, another famous Swedish poker player has decided to quit poker. Robert V Lux is a very well known poker player in Sweden. Lux has won the Nordic championship, played in most of the major poker tournaments around the globe, and also had a huge success online at the medium stakes under the alias "Dödarn".
"I won't miss poker because I have lost the interest, totally. However, I will miss the money and the lifestyle." said Robert V Lux.

Casino di Venezia in Malta was yesterday robbed by 5 armed men who demanded cash from the casino workers. The 5 robbers got away with around €100,000 (probably much more) and then escaped on a speedboat. After that the police heard about the robbery, they rushed to casino with cars, boats and helicopters looking for the robbers speedboat. However, the only thing they have found so far is a car in the sea, which they believe was used by the 5 robbers.
The Swedish Championship of poker is supposed to be played at Casino di Venezia in April this year. Let's hope that this wont effect the tournament and that they will find the 5 robbers as soon as possible.

If you ask Doyle Brunson how it was to play poker "back in the days", you will get to hear stories about people getting robbed and even killed over a game of poker. These days, however, it's quite safe to play poker in a casino or at a proper poker club. Of course, things still happens once in a while, but it's still much safer than how it used to be. Or is it?!?!
Not long ago, NBA players Gilbert Arenas & Javaris Crittenton played poker for high stakes on an airplane heading towards their next game. The game soon degenerated as Javaris Crittenton owed Gilbert Arenas more than $25,000 and refused to pay. Gilbert Arenas took up a gun and pointed it at Javaris. Javaris had no plans on paying Arenas, or at least not to show him that he was afraid. Therefore he took up his own gun and pointed it at his Javaris. However, the action stopped after this.
Today, both of them are friends again and none of them are afraid of losing their contracts with Washington Wizards even though they got suspended for a few games because of the small "incident".

Phil Hellmuth is known for many, many things. However, we're going to make it brief. Phil is one the world's best and most successful tournament poker players. He's the ambassador for a very successful poker site, Ultimate Bet. However, he has a big problem, and that is that he has a very bad temper which makes him go on tilt for almost nothing.
There are plenty of clips on youtube and other sites where one can watch Phil Hellmuth get angry and frustrated after that another player has played a hand in a way he find stupid. Phil Hellmuth knows that this have costed him a lot of money, and therefore he has decided to do something about it. Sam Chauhan, a mindset coach, has been hired by Phil Hellmuth to help him cope with the difficulties being he. Chauhan has helped pros like Antonio Esfandiari and Gavin Smith before - with great results!
We will probably have to wait at least until 2010 WSOP before we'll get to see if Chauhan's expertise coaching has helped Phil.

During season 4 of Million Dollar Cash Game the biggest pot in the history of telvised poker was played. 3 deep stacked players were sitting at the poker table, Patrik Antonius, Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey. However, it came to be Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan who were involved in this historic hand.
This is how the hand was played out: Blinds $1000/$2000+$500 Ante Tom Dwan ($538,000) opens up the pot with a "small bet" from the button and Phil Ivey ($1,137,600) re-raise to $23,000. Antonius fold & Dwan call.
The pot is now $49,500 when the flop J 3 5 lands on the table. Ivey bets out $35,000. Tom Dwan thinks for a while before he decides to make the call. The pot is now $119,500.

To drink alcohol and play poker at the same time is probably nothing a single serious poker player in the whole world would recommend. Probably not even Ilari "ziigmund " sahamies, 26. However, he still did so last weekend.
In one his latest blog posts, he writes that he played "totally f drunk" and lost $500,000, then another $300,000 when he woke up with a hangover the day after. After that, he decided to try his luck betting on tennis. No luck there either and he lost another $130,000. Even though he lost so much money, he's still up about $20,000 on his holiday trip to Australia.
From ziigmund's blog "so sick.I lost yesterday totally f drunk 500k....then I woke up and lost in totally hangover 300k more....then we went to watch tennis to Red Label arena or whatever and I lost 130k more to Justine Henin....Im up now 20k on my holidaytrip...whatever...now I start to play TIGHT."

Not long ago, T.J. Cloutier's 2005 WSOP bracelet was for sale on Ebay. Why does someone like T.J. Cloutier who has over $10,000,000 in tournament winnings sell one of his WSOP bracelets? There were many speculations at this point. Many said that he sold it because he's running out of money due to gambling problems, when others said that he already have 6 bracelets and that it wasn't a big deal for him to get rid of one of them.
When CakePoker later on bought the bracelet, it started to get really interesting. What would they use it for? Once again, many, many speculations were circulating on the web. However, many agreed on one thing - CakePoker had a great plan that would give them some good PR.
It's now official that CakePoker bought the bracelet just to give it back to its rightful owner, T.J. Cloutier. Let's hope that this marks a change to his fortunes. Because a WSOP Bracelet is something priceless that one shouldn't sell.

For the second year in a row, an Australian won the Aussie Millions Main Event and kept the title from leaving Australia. For the win, Tyron Krost, 23, received $2,000,000 AUD ($1,765,920 USD). One can't say anything else than that it was a very well deserved win as he outlasted the 746 players strong starting field and also defeated 2 of the hottest names in tournament poker on the final table - Annette Obrestad & Sorel Mizzi.

The final table is finally set. 8 players have survived a strong field of 746 players and made it all the way to the final table, which will start tomorrow. Among the 8 players that have made it this far, we find 2 huge names, Sorel Mizzi and Annette Obrestad. Sorel Mizzi (chip leader) will bring a massive stack with him to the final table as he has accumulated not less than 6,033,000 chips.
Annette Obrestad will bring 1,349,000 chips to the final table tomorrow. Owen Williams, Meirion Hopkins, Ieuan Griffiths and Mike Harwood are four card-playing friends from South Wales who meet up once in a while to play their favorite card game Crush. Since all of them have been playing for many, many years - they fought they had seen it all. But, when they met up a few weeks ago, they were about to experience something extremely unusual in the very first deal of the night.
After that all 52 cards had been dealt out, everyone started to sort their cards. Owen Williams was ready first, as he looked closer at his hand, he soon realized that he had a "straight" - A, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K.
