Macau's gambling revenue rose to 1,014% year-over-year in April to 8.4 billion patacas ($1.1 billion), according to a report released Saturday by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau. This outcome was actually below the median analyst estimate for a 1,054% jump, Bloomberg reports.

Macau's gambling market could possibly face a fundamental realignment as the local government aims to move closer to legalizing the use of China's digital yuan in casinos.
On Tuesday April 14, Macau's Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng told the Legislative Assembly of plans to "study the feasibility of issuing a digital currency." The government of China's "special administrative region" wishes to boost its ability to deter tax dodgers, money launderers, and other criminal elements, including terrorists.

This year, revenues from gambling in Macau declined every month, as a bleak result from the devastating effects of the worldwide novel coronavirus pandemic.
The figures showing the monthly gross gaming revenue (GGR) of Macau, according to the DICJ (Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau) are as follows: January revenue was down by 11.3%, February 87.8%, March 79.7%, April 96.8%, May 93.2%, and June 97%.

Macau, the world's biggest gambling hub, shall finally allow casinos to resume operations starting February 20, Thursday, after authorities slapped a two-week suspension due to the coronavirus outbreak. The suspension was to keep the virus in check, according to public broadcaster TDM.
Most of the government services that had been suspended since February started will also resume operations this week, and authorities are cautioning the residents to remain vigilant.

The already weakened business of casino operators face the possibility of being forced to close for a longer period of time
The casino industry in the world's biggest gambling hub, Macau, has been asked by the government of Macau to shut down temporarily as Chinese authorities try to control the chaos brought about by the deadly coronavirus. The closure shall begin on February 5 and will last for 15 days.

Some casino dealers in Macau have complained that the new ‘smart' gaming tables in casinos are making them ill. This prompted a lawmaker to demand published data from operators and regulators to prove their claims that the new technology is safe for everyone.
Trade union representative and lawmaker Ella Lei told Macau Times on Monday that if this data existed, she strongly believes it "should be disclosed to ease laborers' worries."

The Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of Macau have released information regarding the city's casinos financial performance in June. According to the reports, the gross gaming revenue has dropped 8.5% in June. The drop in revenue last June is the 25th consecutive month wherein there is a drop in revenue of Macau casinos. It is reported that the proceeds from gambling venues has reached its worst month yet since 2010.
