2014 WSOP Main Event: The Final Table Is Set! Players From Six Nations!

The 45th annual World Series of Poker Main Event is set after 7 intensive days of play! Nine players is all that remains of a massive field of 6,883 players from 87 different nations. The final nine players come from six nations (Brazil, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and the United States.), including the first player ever (Bruno Politano ) from Brazil to reach a final table in a Main Event.

2014 WSOP Main Event: 27 Players Remain; Martin Jacobson Leads!

Day 6 of the 2014 World Series of Poker Main Event began with 79 players, but after 11 hours of play only 27 remained. Swedish poker pro Martin Jacobson (perhaps best known for winning the 2014 EPT Vienna Main Event) will lead the remaining players into Day 7 with a stack of 22,335,000 - about 5.7 million more than Luis Velador (USA) in second place. According to WSOP's website, Jacobson got most of his chips in Level 27 when he won a big pot off Jason Johnson after he flopped a set with pocket 6's and got paid off by Johnson's pocket kings.

The remaining players are now guaranteed a minimum payday of $286,900 with the chance of going all the way to the top prize of $10,000,000! We will be back with another brief report tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned!

2014 WSOP: Event #65 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event Day 2C

ivey2,571 players sat down at the tables at the Rio All-Suit Hotel and Casino for Day 2C of the 2014 WSOP Main Event on Tuesda. Once concluded after 10 hours of poker action, the legendary Phil Ivey was on top of the hill with a great stack of 505,000 chips which puts him on top of all fields! Some 1,400 players survived to Day 3C!

The C-field had a lot of famous poker icons when it started. Some of which were eliminated during Day 2 including Phil Hellmuth, Gus Hansen, JC Tran, Gerard Pique, Andreas Hoivold, Dutch Boyd, Joe Hachem, Matt Salsberg and Daniel Colman. However, Daniel Negreanu made it and, although his stack is very shy (39,800), is ready for Day 3C!

wsopThe survivors from Day 1 A & B continued their play in this year's main event on Tuesday. The two fields were seated in different rooms in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino; survivors from Day 1a played in the Amazon Room while the B's were playing in the Brasilia and Pavilion rooms. Once Day 2 was concluded, approximately 700 players survived from both fields out of the +1,900 players that came through from Day 1.

The chip leaders from Day 1, Martin Jacobson and Trey Luxemburger, could not hold on to the top through Day 2 although Jocobson played very well most of the day and finished 9th on 342,700 chips. Luxemburger finished the day on 64th with a stack worth 186,800. The man that bagged the most after Day 2 is a relatively unknown player called Tim Stansifer who took over the lead with a chip count of 481,500.

wsopThe 2014 WSOP's Main Event kicked off this weekend on Saturday. There were 771 players that sat down at the tables at the Rio for Day 1A of this year's $10,000,000 1st place guarantee event. No other than the legendary 2005 main event winner Joe Hachem kicked off the event by announcing the classic "Shuffle up and Deal".

Day 1A gathered some famous poker faces. No less than 5 previous gold bracelet winners were among the participants: Tom McEvoy, Johnny Chan, Chris Moneymaker, Greg Merson, and Ryan Riess.

Once Day 1A concluded, the chip leader was Sweden's Martin Jacobson who bagged 200,100 chips for round 2. The young Swede has earned a total of $1,204,983 in WSOP winnings where the major part comes from finishing on 6th place in 2013's Event #47: One Drop High Rollers No-Limit Hold'em where he won $807,427.

No bracelet number 14 for Mr. Phil Hellmuth this time as he ended up in 6th place in Event #61: Seven Card Stud ($10,000 buy-in). Well, a big congratulations to Matt "Grapes" Grapenthien for besting an extremly tough field of 102 players to claim his first gold bracelet and $268,473 in prize money!

Grepenthien, a well respected online cash game grinder with some minor live tournament cashes dating back to 2004, overcame multiple chip disadvantages during the 9-hour final table, including the heads-up match against Todd Brunson.

1,475 players turned up for the $1,500 Mixed-Max event when it kicked off on Monday. After three long days of poker, long-time pro Jared Jaffe had all the chips in play after eliminating fellow American pro Mike Watson in second place. Jaffe received $405,428 in prize money and earned his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet!

2014 WSOP: Mike Kachan Wins $403,483 In Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em

On Wednesday, the final 16 of 2,525 players returned to the poker tables for Day 3 of Event #56: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em. Five players were sent packing during the first two levels of play and Bastian Fischer finished eleventh soon after.

The two tables then became an unofficial final table of 10 players until Matt Salsberg shoved with A[d]K[d] on the board 6[d]10[s]J[s] into the 10[c]10[d] of Raymond Henson. The last two cards were to no help for Mr. Salsberg who finished in 10th place for $23,202.

American Jeffrey Smith from Encinitas, California has just laid hands on the $323,125 top prize and his very first gold coveted WSOP bracelet after besting a field of 1,940 players over 3 days of play! Smith defeated his final opponent, Danny Nguyen, after an extremly tight heads-up battle that lasted for three hours.

In the final hand, Smith raised to 160k and Nguyen pushed all in. Smith called right away and turned over A[d]9[h], Nguyen showed Q[h]6[h]. The board ran out 9[c]3[h]5[s]9[s]10[d] and Smith won the final hand of the tournament with three of a kind nines. Danny Nguyen received $199,829 for his runner-up finish.

2014 WSOP Kicks Off Tomorrow!

The long wait in soon over as the 2014 World Series of Poker begins tomorrow! The 45th annual WSOP runs between May 27 and July 14, 2014 at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and a total of 65 events are on the schedule, including the Main Event with its massive $10,000,000 guarantee put aside for the winner this year and the $1M buy-in charity event BIG ONE for ONE DROP!

On Monday, another 10 new players were confirmed for the 2014 World Series of Poker $1 Million BIG ONE for ONE DROP, including the first ever female participant, Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst!

Big One for One Drop: The $1 Million Buy-in Tournament Will Return In 2014!

Big One for One Drop, the biggest buy-in tournament in poker history, took place in Las Vegas during the 2012 WSOP and attracted a field of 48 professional players and amateurs who put up $1 million each. The tournament was won by Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari ($18.3 million) and raised a total of $10 million for charity.
