The Cypriot police raided a house in Limassol in 2009 after they had received complaints that the house had turned into a gambling club. The police entered the house and found a group of female pensioners playing cards. The police recovered around €100 in stake money and confiscated playing cards and poker chips.
Two of the women have since the raid passed away and two are in nursing home. The organizer of the private home game, a 98-year-old Cypriot woman, can now get up to a 6-month jail term or a €750 fine since gambling for money, even in a private home game, is illegal in Cyprus.
Yioula Diakantoni, the daughter of the 98-year-old told the Associated Press, "They were playing with only very small sums of money, just to make it interesting. My mother has never done anyone harm and we hope she continues playing because it keeps her mind sharp."

Recently Martin Finger, 21, from Germany won the EPT Prague main event and received a huge prize of 720k euro. Finger became the third German poker player ever to win an EPT main event and received lots of positive feedback in the media.
However, it didn't take long before his big win became overshadowed by other headlines. During EPT London, according to a poker news site, Finger went out to party after the tournament, got drunk and behaved aggressively. After Finger left the exclusive club Kensington Roof Garden in central London, he broke into a restaurant to get himself some food. But the heavy night came to an end quickly as the British police arrived at the scene and arrested him. It remains unclear what charges Martin Finger will face. If he gets away with paying some fines, the EPT Prague winnings might come in handy.

Everything was caught on tape and it didn't take a long time before the police could arrest some of the people who had been involved. The poker club Krukan in Stockholm is the biggest poker club in Sweden since it opened last year. Krukan is known to be a serious club where no shady business whatsoever is going on. However, sometimes that's not even enough. Last Friday the police (by order of the lottery inspection and office of the public prosecutor) paid them a visit. Around 80-100 players were at that time in the club, playing tournaments and cash games. The police stopped all games at once, took everyones personal details and confiscated all chips/tokens.

Posted on 20 May 2010 by "T". |
The police in Portsmouth (USA) must have been quite surprised when they received a phone call at 3 in the morning from someone who claimed to have seen a naked lady running around the block. The police had to investigate the whole thing and therefore they decided to send a patrol to check. The police patrol must have been shocked when they saw 2 naked persons hiding behind a fence.
When the police confronted them, they informed the police that they had been playing strip poker with some friends. Unfortunately (for them) they had lost and the penalty was to run naked around the block. The police gave them a lift back to the house where the strip poker game took place. They decided to only give them a warning this time instead of file a report.

During last weekend the German police arrested the 2 last remaining suspects for the EPT Berlin robbery, Mustafa Ucarkus and Jihad Chetwie. 20-year-old Mustafa Ucarkus was arrested at Tegel airport after his lawyer gave authorities a tip on where he was.
Jihad Chetwie, the final suspect in the March 7th heist at EPT Berlin, turned himself in at Tegel airport after flying in from Beirut, Lebanon. It seems like he was afraid of getting caught in Lebanon and therefore decided to return to Germany and most probably German prison.
There are very few details regarding the money from the robbery. But its probably just a matter of weeks before we get to know the full story behind the EPT Berlin robbery.

Earlier this week Vedat S turned himself in to police. His cooperation has been very important for the German police as they now have arrested a second person for the robbery at EPT Berlin. The second arrested man is 20-year-old named Ahmad el-Awayti. Ahmad el-Awayti surrendered himself to the authorities at a subway station in Rosenthaler Square. He went up to the police officers saying "I believe you are looking for me" and was then arrested without any fight.
The police are now looking for the two outstanding suspects, Jihad Chetwie, 19, from Germany and Mustafa Ucarkus, 20, from Turkey. It's probably just a matter of days before the police have arrested all the robbers.
