Fernandez goes yard in return for Marlins
Fans 6 over 6 innings, hits leadoff homer in fifth

MIAMI -- The long wait was to once again see Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez pitch. But the Marlins' ace energized and entertained on Thursday afternoon with his bat as well as his blazing fastball.
Fernandez celebrated a triumphant return from Tommy John surgery, striking out six, while allowing three runs in six innings and also smashing a home run in Miami's 5-4 win over the Giants at Marlins Park.

Bour powers up again as Marlins outduel Cubs

CHICAGO -- Christian Yelich hit a solo homer and Justin Bour clubbed his fourth blast in his past four games to power the Marlins to a 2-1 victory Friday, ending the Cubs' three-game win streak in front of 41,212 at Wrigley Field.
Bour's tie-breaking homer came with two outs in the sixth off starter Jason Hammel and landed in the basket rimming the right-field bleachers at Wrigley Field. The Cubs' starter had retired 14 in a row before the home run.

Bryant's 2nd career slam his 2nd homer of night
Phenom is first Cubs rookie to hit two slams in a season since Williams in '61

CHICAGO -- Kris Bryant ignited the fireworks at Wrigley Field a little early in Saturday's 7-2 Cubs win over the Marlins.
The rookie belted two home runs, including his second career grand slam, and drove in six runs in the first two innings. The effort was Bryant's second career multihomer game, and he now leads all Major League rookies as well as all Cubs players with 49 RBIs.

All-Star starters unveiled tonight, full roster Monday
Watch selection shows on ESPN; Final Vote to get underway Monday

It was historic because it happened exclusively online. It was personal because it decided the fate of your favorite players. It was intense because you argued a lot. And it was teamwork because you helped shatter a Major League Baseball record.
After 65 consecutive days of relentless fan voting to determine starting positions players for the 86th All-Star Game on July 14 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, the largest All-Star balloting program in sports closed at 11:59 p.m. ET Thursday.

Future is bright for Mets with Matz on mound
Young lefty keeps Dodgers scoreless in 2nd career start

LOS ANGELES -- No one can really say this enough: The Mets have so much good, young, frontline pitching. There's a bright future in store for an organization that hasn't made the playoffs since 2006 or won a World Series since 1986.
"I don't think it's the future, I think it's right now," said Mets captain David Wright on Sunday.

Heston gets rematch vs. no-hitter foe Mets

If the Mets can trace their current offensive funk back to any one day in particular, it may as well be June 9 -- the day that Giants rookie Chris Heston no-hit them at Citi Field. Since that night, the Mets have struggled to score with any consistency, while Heston has blossomed into a key member of San Francisco's rotation.
Now comes the rematch, a chance for revenge. Heston will face Jon Niese and the Mets in Monday's series opener at AT&T Park, with both teams struggling to keep pace in the National League's developing Wild Card race.
