Giants acquire righty Leake from Reds Club sends No. 1 prospect Mella, Duvall to Cincinnati in exchange
ARLINGTON -- Bent on improving their starting rotation, the Giants obtained right-hander Mike Leake from the Cincinnati Reds late Thursday night for two Minor Leaguers, right-hander Keury Mella and infielder Adam Duvall. Giants general manager Bobby Evans tried fruitlessly to acquire Cole Hamels from Philadelphia or David Price from Detroit, All-Star left-handers who were considered the two premier starters among the pitchers considered available before Friday's 1 p.m. PT non-waiver Trade Deadline.

Donaldson's day ends with walk-off over Royals
TORONTO -- Josh Donaldson hit a walk-off single in the 11th inning to send the Blue Jays to a 7-6 victory over the Royals on Friday night at Rogers Centre. Donaldson's third hit of the night scored Troy Tulowitzki from second and came off left-hander Franklin Morales. The rally in the 11th inning began with a one-out single by Tulowitzki, who later advanced to second when a balk was called on Morales. Donaldson finished 3-for-5 with a walk, four RBIs and a run scored.

Mets cut gap to just 1 game: Duda, Duda
NEW YORK -- A billboard greeted fans coming off the Grand Central Parkway on Saturday, trumpeting Yoenis Cespedes' arrival in Queens. But it was an old face, Lucas Duda, who almost single-handedly lifted the Mets to a come-from-behind 3-2 win over the Nationals, moving New York within a game of first place in the National League East.

Tying game: Mets deliver Citi's slickest sweep
NEW YORK -- The Mets' first three-homer inning since 2007 sent Citi Field into possibly the biggest ruckus in its history, shooting New York into a virtual tie for first place with a 5-2 win over the Nationals on Sunday night to complete a three-game sweep. Back-to-back third-inning homers from Curtis Granderson and Daniel Murphy sparked an electric atmosphere at the Queens ballpark, where the fans have thirsted for a playoff team since its inception in 2009. The crowd of 35,374 sure felt it finally had the makings of one after Lucas Duda followed Murphy two batters later with his ninth homer in eight games -- a two-run shot that punctuated a season-defining homestand and gave winning pitcher Noah Syndergaard insurance runs to work with.

Not at his best, Felix finds way to 13th win Mariners ace allows four runs in 6 2/3 frames and strikes out nine
DENVER -- There will be some who look at the 11 hits surrendered by Felix Hernandez on Monday and wonder what's up with the Mariners' ace. But don't count Lloyd McClendon in that group. The Mariners skipper was plenty pleased with how Hernandez survived his first career outing at Coors Field, allowing four runs over 6 2/3 innings as Seattle held on for an 8-7 victory.

With 9-run 7th, Yankees pound Red Sox
NEW YORK -- Brian McCann and Chris Young each hit three-run homers as the Yankees enjoyed yet another big inning, scoring nine times in the seventh at the expense of the beleaguered Red Sox bullpen in a 13-3 romp Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. New York sent 13 men to the plate in the frame, continuing a hot run that has seen them score 90 runs in their past 10 contests. The lopsided contest benefited right-hander Masahiro Tanaka, who held Boston to three runs and five hits over six-plus innings.

W is for Wednesday -- and walk-off Angels, White Sox, Rockies nab wins in spectacular fashion
Walk-off wins are a weekly occurrence in baseball, but it's not often that we see three games end in walk-off fashion in one day, let alone on three completely varied plays. Wednesday was one of those rare days -- Walk-off Wednesday, if you will -- as the Angels, White Sox and Rockies each celebrated at home plate.
