As many predicted, Day 1b of the EPT Copenhagen Main Event attracted a much bigger player-field than Day 1a. In total, 215 players arrived at the SAS Radisson Hotel in Copenhagen yesterday and battled it out for seven levels of play.
The day ended with a local player in the lead, Mads Wissing, who managed to accumulate 127,575 chips. A few familiar poker players who also made it through Day 1b: Johnny Lodden, Anton Wigg, Luca Pagano, Juha Helppi, Arnaud Mattern and home town here Theo Jorgensen.

In December last year the 2010 WSOP Champion Jonathan Duhamel was attacked in his home in Boucherville, Quebec by two masked men who got away with his 2010 WSOP Bracelet, a Rolex watch and some cash. It didn't take long before Duhamel's Ex girlfriend Bianca Rojas-Latraverse, 20, and 3 men were arrested by the police for involvement in the home invasion.
Shortly after the Rolex watch was found and returned to Duhamel, however, the bracelet, which is estimated to be be worth around $40,000, wasn't found and Duhamel even offered a reward of up to $10,000 to the one who could give information on where the bracelet was kept.

PokerStars Latin American poker Tour Grand Final in Sao Paulo, Brazil has been running the whole weekend and today it's finally time for the final table to be played. Leading the way into the final table is Daniele Nestola from Germany. He has about 1,89 million chips - just about 600k more than Carlos Ibarra in second place.
The biggest name on the final table is no one else than the Canadian Team PokerStars Pro Daniel Negreanu. Daniel, who's in Brazil for the first time, will bring 702,000 to the final table today and is defiantly the player that the big stacks will try to avoid playing against.

Posted on 20 February 2012 by "T". |
Today Scandinavia's most prestigious poker tournament starts, the 2012 European Poker Tour in Copenhagen, Denmark. Well, some satellites to the Main Event and other events started already yesterday. But that doesn't really count, right?
Day 1a of the Main Event kicks off in a few hours and the buy-in is 35,000 Danish Crowns (about €4.7k euro) - same buy-in as last year when the Main Event saw a field of 423 players and Michael Tureniec from Sweden defeated fellow countryman Per Linde heads-up.
EPT Copenhagen will hopefully see an even greater felt of players this year. And hopefully even more notables will show up for the Main Event and the High Roller than last year. We will keep you updated on these 2 events, so don't forget to check our news every day.

These are of course just a few examples on tournaments that have received a greater guarantee, so make sure to check out the full list below!

finland, finland, pokerstars.eu, sverige, sweden, tax free.
Posted on 15 February 2012 by "T". |
Since February 13th Swedish and Finnish players will be moved from PokeStars.COM to PokerStars.EU software. The reason for this is that PokerStars has gotten a license in Malta (where many other betting companies also have their license), which makes all winnings tax free. There is no difference when it comes to tournaments, cash games etc, so players from Finland and Sweden can still take part in, for example, Sunday Million and play against the same players as on PokerStars.COM.
How will it work? Once you log on to your PokerStars account you will receive detailed instructions and your current balance, cash balance, FPPs, VIPs, and VIP status, will automatically be moved over. And once the software update is done you are good to go again!

After a successful launch in Italy, PokerStars has now also released its mobile app to players in the United Kingdom as well. This means that players in Italy, England, Scotland and Wales now can play Hold'em and Omaha for real-money/play-money on PokerStars on their iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and Android devices.
According to PokerStars blog, more countries will be able to use this App in the near future. Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree is one of the persons who have tried out the new Mobile App. This is what she had to say about it:
"PokerStars Mobile is going to transform where and when I play poker - I now have access to the biggest tournaments and all my favourite cash games, even when I'm not in front of my computer. I plan to play all the upcoming UKIPT events and will now be able to play some poker when travelling to or from a tournament."

Last Saturday the WPT Venice Grand Prix final table was played. When the final table kicked off, Andrea Dato had a big lead with 1,591,000 chips and in second place was Simon Ravnsbaek with 922,000. Both players built their big stacks by playing extremely aggressive and bluff a lot.
On the final table, however, that tactic didn't work out so good for them as their opponents picked up good hands. In fact, Dato and Ravnsbaek tried to three-bet bluff their opponents a few times and ended up losing lots of chips.

Posted on 09 February 2012 by "T". |
The third day of the WPT Venice Grad Prix main event can be described as the battle between Andrea Dato, Simon Ravnsbeak and Marcel Bjerkmann. The trio stole the show with their loose aggressive style of playing poker. In fact, it was easy to forget that there were other players in the room as well.
Marcel Bjerkmann, the Day 2 chip leader, is the only one from the trio that won't return to play in a few hours. Simon Ravnsbaek (picture) has the lead with 795k and Andrea Dato is in 3rd place with 726k. Expect these 2 players to be the center of attention when the 4th day kicks off!
There are 9 players left and all of them are guaranteed to get away with at least $18,133 each. The winner will get amazing $302,065 and the second place pays $146,826. We will return with an update when a winner has been crowned.

The WPT Venice Grand Prix Main Event's third day is soon about to start and there are 27 players left. The one who will sit down with the largest stack today is Marcel Bjerkmann from Norway. His biggest tournament achievements so far came in 2010: a Master Classics of Poker title (Amsterdam), a Belgium Open Poker Championship title, and a second place in PokerStars EPT London/Season 7 UKIPT.
Anyhow, he has about a 50k chip advantage to his closest opponent Marko Neumann, and there are many good tournament players with plenty of chips left. In other words, it's still a long way to go for Marcel if he want's to take down his third major poker tournament. The winner will take home $302,065 and the money bubble will burst when 18 players remain. We will return with an update as soon as Day 3 is over.

Posted on 08 February 2012 by "T". |
The Russian poker community has lost one of its greatest players as poker pro Nikolay Evdakov passed away on Monday this week. He died at the age of only 47 and no reason to his sudden death has been given.
Evdakov made a name for himself in the poker world during the 2008 World Series of Poker when he beat the most cashes during one WSOP record. In total, he cashed in 10 events and his best result was a 14th place in the $10,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Last year he reached the quarter finals in the WSOP $25k NLH heads-up event, and the year before that he finished 9th in the World Poker Tour Final.
The funeral of Nikolay Evdakov will be held in his hometown next Wednesday. Rest in peace!

Posted on 07 February 2012 by "T". |
Another issue has shown up in the sale process of Full Tilt Poker. In total, a group of 19 players owe the company about 16.5 million dollars. Just to mention a few of them: Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein and David Benyamine. Groupe Bernard Tapie, the upcoming owners of Full Tilt Poker, are currently working out repayments plans for all the players.
Laurent Tapie, the son of Bernard Tapie (the founder of Groupe Bernard Tapie), said in an interview the other day that some of the players already have accepted to pay back money owed to the company, and some of the repayment plans will shortly be settled.
According to what representatives from Group Bernard Tapie said earlier this year, these outstanding debts might create a serious threat for the deal to be completed if it's not regulated in time.

Posted on 07 February 2012 by "T". |
After 11-and-a-half-hours of play on the EPT Deauville Main Event final table, Vadzim Kursevich from Belarus was the last man standing after defeating Paul Guichard , from France, heads-up.
Guichard had a narrow lead to Kursevich when the final table began. However, when the heads-up began between the two, Kursevich had a massive 23 million to 3 million lead, and it didn't take many hands before it was over. For the win Kursevich received an amazing €875,000 while Guichard got €557,000.
Now you might wonder what happened to Luca Pagano? Well, he sat down at the final table quite short stacked and, unfortunately, it didn't take long before he found himself in trouble and finished 7th place for €110,000. This was his 7th EPT final table and 20th cash, but still not a single win. Well, it's probably just a matter of time before he will get his first EPT title. He really deserves it!
