Epic Poker League: Brunson gets lifetime membership card

Posted on 14 December 2011 by "T".

Epic Poker League, a league that only qualified players with a membership card can take part in, is now almost one year old and so far it has been a success - something that very few people thought earlier this year. The conditions to enter the EPIC Poker League main event make sure that only the best poker players in the world can take part.

However, those conditions don't apply to Doyle Brunson, who hasn't taken part in any of the 2 EPL main events played so far. On Tuesday, Doyle Brunson was offered the first lifetime membership card by the EPL, which means that he can enter any future Main Event no mater how his poker career is going.

Posted on 13 December 2011 by "T".

PokerStars has been running some fantastic promotions lately as a part of its 10 year anniversary. However, the most popular one so far must have been the 72 Billionth Hand Promotion. On Sunday, December 11th, when over 400,000 players were logged into the site, 6 lucky players on a $.02/$.05 table were dealt into the hand. All players went all in pre-flop and a player called "Kozlicek_x", from Czech Republic, won the hand with a set of sevens. For the win he got the pot of $27 + $24,300 in prize money. The other players received a minimum of $12,100 each.

What's next?
On Sunday Pokerstars 10th Anniversary celebration is back with an amazing $10 million Sunday Million tournament at 14:30 EST. The buy-in will be $215 (satellites running around the clock) and the winner will take home at least $2 million! 1 hour after the Sunday Million starts, there will also be a $10,000 High Roller event, which most probably will attract some big names.

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom has not been so active at PokerStars in the past few months. Well, some say that he plays with a fake alias and that he has been active since "Isildur1" went on a break. Last week, however, he was once again back as Isildur1" and showed the poker world that he still can dominated at the highest stakes.

In total, Viktor Blom ended up winning an impressive $1.4 million, and the most money came from $100/$200 Pot Limit Omaha games against VietRussian, Phil Galfond, Brian Townsend and Fake Love888. According to different tracking sites, Blom is now up about $1.9 million this year on PokerStars. Only Ilari Sahamies and Rafael Amit have won more than that.

Star-filled final table of Five Diamond World Poker Classic

Posted on 12 December 2011 by "T".

The final table of Five Diamond World Poker Classic was probably one of the most interesting World Poker Tour final tables this year since both Antonio Esfandiari and Vanessa Selbst were on it. But unfortunately Esfandiari, who won the tournament last year had the chance to take home his 3rd WPT title, didn't do so well on the final table and was eliminated already in 6th place. Selbst did better though and she was doing well until there were only 3 players left. Then everything came to an end when she lost an all in with K9 versus James Dempsey's A9.

Is Isildur1 using a fake alias on PokerStars?

Posted on 09 December 2011 by "T".

There are some quite interesting rumors circulating in different forums at the moment. One of them is that Viktor Blom, whose sponsor deal with PokerStars is about to expire and also hasn't been seen playing on the site for quite some time, has been active lately under a fake nick. "Wilhasha", who has taking on everyone at the $50/$100 NLH tables, is rumored to have used account "drpill" on Full Tilt Poker and was known to have shared accounts with no one else than Viktor Blom.

The record field of 722 players has been narrowed down to 31 after 4 days of poker (Day 1a & 1b, Day 2, Day 3) The 3 first days ended with a Russian in the lead. But that tradition came to an end yesterday and now the chip leader is Partrik Renkers from Netherlands. Renkers had a fantastic winning streak during Day 3 and today a 2.4 million stack is waiting for him at the Hilton poker room. The player in second place, Martin Finger from Germany, has about half of that stack.

The High Stakes Poker saga comes to an end

Tags: gsn, high stakes poker, season 8 high stakes poker.
Posted on 08 December 2011 by "T".

For 6 years, High Stakes Poker has been one of the most popular cash games on television. There have been 8 seasons of High Stakes Poker since they started broadcasting the show on GSN in January 2006, and since the very beginning the biggest names in the poker world have taken part and lost/won millions of dollars.

This year, however, the show's viewer ratings have been been extremely poor and many have stopped watching the show. In fact, the low viewer base of High Stakes Poker might mean the end of the show as GSN won't continue broadcasting the show next year. And it remains unclear whether or not any other TV channel wants to continue broadcasting the show. In other words, season 8 might be the last season of High Stakes Poker.

EPT Prague: 234 players became 133 after 8 one-hour levels

Tags: ept prague, pokerstars, wpt prague.
Posted on 06 December 2011 by "T".

The EPT Prague main event kicked off yesterday and saw a field of 234 players. After a long day of poker (8 one-hour levels), 133 players still had chips left and they will return tomorrow to the tournament room at the Hilton.

The one who managed to accumulate most chips during Day 1a is Vedzizhev Beslan from Russia. With 131,200 chips he has a small lead over Jesus Cortes, from Spain, with 131,200. And only 1 chip behind Cortes is Sergey Baburin with 131,100. These 3 players are closely followed by several players, so it's impossible to predict how things will go during Day 2.

Unfortunately not a lot big names in the poker world made it through Day 1a. Let's hope that Day 1b, which begins in a few hours, will generate a few more renowned players will plenty of chips.

Had to quit his job to be able to play the Swedish Championship final table

Tags: hans berglund, lidl, swedish championship of online poker.

Tomorrow it's time for the final table of the Swedish championship of online poker. 10 finalists will battle it out for a first place prize of 1.255.737 sek (about 137,800 euro). There has been quite a lot of talk in Swedish media and forums about the final table and the finalists.

However, one finalist has received much more attention than the other players, Hans Berglund. The reason for this is that Berglund's employer LIDL didn't give him time off to play the final table. In fact, Berglund's boss gave him an ultimatum: "either you show up for work or you're fired".

Facebook to enter the Igaming industry?

Tags: facebook, gambling, igaming, poker, real-money.
Posted on 01 December 2011 by "T".

A report posted yesterday morning by EgamingReview is suggesting that Facebook is looking to lunch real-money gambling in the UK. According to the report, Facebook has spoken with up to 20 online gaming experts and potential facilitators over the last 6 months and will try to get 8 licenses for UK operators to offer real-money gambling apps. If it works out fine in the UK, Facebook are then planning on getting licenses for the rest of Europe as well.

If Facebook get the necessary licenses to operate in the UK, and maybe the rest of Europe, it might be a real industry changer as Facebok has such a huge customer base. However, the future will tell whether or not people actually wanna play poker for real-money through a Facebook application.
