Posted on 04 February 2011 by "T". |
A few days ago Greg Raymer, the 2004 WSOP Main Event winner, wrote on his twitter that he's no longer representing PokerStars and that he has no further comments. PokerStars hasn't announced anything yet either, but it's clear that Greg Raymer is no longer part of their team as he has been removed from the website.
So, what's the reason Greg Raymer is leaving PokerStars after so many years? Well, there are quite a few rumors, but most likely is that the conditions for the PokerStars pros aren't as good as before and that's the reason he left. We will probably get the answer very soon.

Viktor "Isildur1" Blom has been running extremely good at PokerStars in the past few days. He has especially been doing well in heads-up matches (No Limit Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha) against Phil Galfond and Ashton Griffin.
In total Isildur1 has won $660,000 since Sunday and he's also one of PokerStars most successful players this year. Let's hope that his winning streak continues and that we soon get to watch some more thrilling battles at PokerStars nosebleed tables!

2010's biggest winner online, Daniel "Jungleman12" Cates, had a rough week at PokerStars and Full Tilt's poker tables last week. At Full Tilt Poker he lost $443,00 (only Also11 lost more -$450k) and at PokerStars about $50,000 in thrilling heads-up match (SuperStar Showdown) against Viktor "Isildur1" Blom.
The Danish poker pro Gus Hansen, who was one of 2010's biggest losers online, ended up being last week's biggest winner online. Gus managed to win not less than $650k in just about 1200 hands. It will be interesting to see if he can keep up the good game this week as well.

The 2011 Aussie Millions Main Event is down to a final table after 6 days of play. In the lead is Randy Dorfman with almost 3.9 million chips. Yes, Dorfman, who lead the field after Day 2, has regained the lead and he's definitely the big favorite to take down the tournament if he continues playing as good as during Day 4. Someone that will get a lot of attention on the final table is the Finnish Full Tilt Pro Patrik Antonius. Antonius will bring 1.3 million chips to the final table and he's definitely the one of the 8 finalists who has the most experience to play televised final tables where lots of money is up for grabs.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have a really interesting final table ahead of us. All the finalists are guaranteed at least 130k AUD each and the winner will get stunning 2,000,000 AUD.

Everyone has been talking about the the super high roller event with a massive buy-in of $250,000 at this year's Aussie Millions. First it was meant to be a heads-up event, then an 8-game mixed event, and finally the tournament crew decided that it was going to be a single table no-limit hold'em tournament. Not less than 20 players signed up for the tournament and created a prize pool of stunning $5 million dollars. The field included poker gods such as Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, John Juanda, Daniel "jungleman12" Cates and Annette Obrestad.

The final table is being played at the moment. The 6 finalists who are battling for the first prize of 250,000 AUD are Howard Lederer, David Oppenheim, James Bord, Barny Boatman, Patrik Antonius and Eli Elezra. Howard Lederer is in the lead with 175,000, closely followed by Oppenheim (160k) and James Bord (135,000).
Boatman and Antonius are far behind in chips but might still have a chance if they double up soon. Eli Elezra only has 15,000 chips left and he will for sure be the one who's sent packing next since the blinds of 1000/2000 +100 ante are eating up his stack.

A lot of people were surprised when they read in Doyle Brunson's latest blog that he's considering to hit the road and move from Las Vegas to California. What surprised people even more was that the reason Doyle is considering to move is because of poker. Yes, Doyle thinks that there aren't enough high-limit games to suit him.
"Las Vegas is becoming more and more a not very desirable place for a poker pro to live. There are simply isn't very many high limit games anywhere. What's with the economy, the world wide tournaments, and the internet poker, the outlook for live cash games are bleak. Poker is on the verge of making a very significant change and in my opinion very bad change. I'm considering moving to California; at least there are a few mid level games that are played regularly", writes Doyle Brunson in his blog.

Peter Eastgate, the 2008 WSOP Main Event winner, retired from poker last summer and not long ago he sold his bracelet on eBay - in order to gather money for charity. The bracelet was sold for not less than $147,000 to an anonymous buyer. Ever since the bracelet was sold, there have been many speculations who the buyer might be.
A few days ago, one could read in the Danish newspaper Ekstrabladet that it was Willie Haughey, a Scottish businessman and poker player (won an EPT side event back in 2008), who bought the bracelet for stunning $147,000. However, neither Eastgate or Haughey have confirmed this yet.

There hasn't been much action at the nosebleed tables online in the past few days, however there have been some good games on the $25/$50 PLO tables at Full Tilt. One of the most active players has been the Swedish player Toomten. He won $159,000 from a player called Bttech and then he decided to take on 2010's biggest winner online, jungleman12.
Toomten didn't have a chance against the american and after 1128 hands he gave up - $79k from the $159k was suddenly gone. This shows that table selection is one of the most important things in poker. Well, we can be thankful for a very entertaining heads-up!

It ended up being a very interesting final table (many familiar faces) of the PCA High Roller tournament. 3 of the 8 finalists were PokerStars pros and many thought that Jason Mercier would be the one of them who would survive the longest. However, as we all know now, it didn't end up that way but instead it was Leo Fendandez who battled for the first place prize of over a million dollars against William Molson. But unfortunately he didn't stand a chance against the canadian and ended up in 2nd place. A big congratulations to the winner, William Molson from Canada.
Final table results: 1: William Molson, $1 072 850 2: Leo Fernandez, $554 925 3: Max Lykov, $369 490 4: Erik Seidel, $295 960 5: Govert Metaal, $240 470 6: David Baker, $203 475 7: Matt Marafioti, C$166 480 8: Jason Mercier, $129 480

2 weeks have now passed on the new year and it looks like it might might be a very good year when it comes to high stakes games online - even though so many big names in the poker world have been busy playing different live tournaments such as PCA etc.
Someone that has been running extremely good so far is Di "Urindanger" Dang. He has been playing lots of hands and it seems like he's waiting for new opponents 24/7 at Full Tilt Poker. Dang has won almost $1.1 million dollars so far and it seems like the poker gods are siding with him in many of the bigger pots. Well, he's a great player and it's not only about luck!
