The final table of WPT Festa al Lago Main Event is finally set. 6 players will return to their seats tonight and fight for some serious cash, while lots of WPT/poker lovers around the globe will cheer for their favorite(s). Andy Frankenberger is one of the finalists and he has the chance to win his second WPT title tonight! It would be simply amazing if he manage to win 2 WPT titles within 2 months time! Chip leader is Randal Flowers, closely followed by Noah Schwartz who has over $1 million in tournament winnings.
So what happened to Annette Obrestad and Jeff Madsen who were in the very top of the field yesterday when there were only 13 remaining players? Unfortunately the poker gods weren't on Annette's or Madsen's side and both were sent off the rail almost straight away. Kind of disappointing, hah? Well, there are some really good players on the final table. Personally, I hope that Frankenberger wins his second WPT title!

Mike Sexton was the only person to get inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame last year. This year, 10 players players were nominated and 2 of them were chosen by the 16 living hall of fame members and a selected group of media members based upon five criteria:
- A player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition
- Played for high stakes
- Played consistently well, gaining the respect of peers
- Stood the test of time
- Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

After 4 days of intensive poker, the WPT Festa al Lago Main Event is down to 13 players. In other words, the final table is just probably an hour or two away when Day 5 starts tonight. Annette Obrestad, the norwegian poker pro, is in the lead with a 2 million stack. She played extremely well during Day 4 and managed to climb to the very top of the field in no-time. Right now, Annette is definitely the big favorite to take home the tournament. Well, the rest of the players will probably put on a good fight as well. Jeff Madsen, who has won 2 WSOP bracelets and millions of dollars, will probably be Annette's toughest opponent in the remaining field of players.

Is Gus Hansen's losing streak finally over!? Well, that's what many think after seeing him do extremely well last week at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables. It was a new Gus Hansen we got to see, a Gus Hansen who did few mistakes and never went on tilt. Gus couldn't complain about any bad beats either. The poker gods simply were on his side (for once) and there were never any doubts whatsoever that he would become anything else than the biggest winner online.
It will be interesting to see if Gus Hansen can keep up the good game this week as well. He needs to win big almost every week from now if he wants to win back all the millions of dollars he has lost over the past few year. Well, nothing is impossible in the poker world.

The WPT Festa Al Lago Main Event attracted a quite big starting field and lots of big names in the poker world when it kicked off on Friday last week. Not less than 335 players paid the buy-in of $10,300 and created a big prize pool. Now three days have passed we're down to 41 players. All of them are already in the money but of course everyone is aiming for the WPT title and the first prize of $831,500.
Players who have a good chance of making it to the final table and all the way to the tile, as it seems right now, are Steve O´Dwyer (844,500), Jeff Madsen (814,000) and Randal Flowers (795,000). All of them have played very well so far and they have the experience to take down a big tournament. There are a few other big names left in the tournament as well, but further down in the field of remaining players. Just to mention 3 of them, Annette Obrestad (395,000), Barry Greenstein (210,000) and Gavin Smith (75,000).

Posted on 15 October 2010 by "T". |
It's finally time for another stop on the WPT tour - WPT Festa al Lago. This time it's Bellagio in Las Vegas' turn and many of the world's best poker players are supposed to show up and take part in the main event with a $10,300 buy-in at 21:00 CET tonight. WPT Festa al Lago will be going on for 6 days and the main event final table will be played next Wednesday.
There are lots of side events for those who don't do so well in the main event or simply decide not to play it. For some strange reason there is no high roller event this time, but the WPT crew has promised many $5,000 events.

Posted on 15 October 2010 by "T". |
Full Tilt Poker has just announced on its website that it has signed tennis star James Blake to its "Friends of Full Tilt" list. Blake turned pro back in 1999 and since then he has played against the top tennis players in the world and won 15 titles. He was also voted the the world's sexiest athlete in the People's 2002 Sexiest Man Alive issue.
As you already might have figured out, James Blake is pretty good at playing poker as well and his top result so far is a second place in the 2nd season of Bravo's Celebrity Poker Showdown. I will be interesting to see if he can achieve even greater results now when he's playing for Full Tilt Poker! Good luck on the tennis court and at the poker tables, James Blake!

After a kind of quiet week at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables, we think it's about time to summarize 2010's high stakes results. The 2 biggest winners this year are, not really a big surprise, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Daniel "jungleman12" Cates. Both Dwan and Cates have won over $4 million dollars each and, at the moment, it looks like their winning streaks aren't over yet. Other big winners this year are Phil ivey (+$3m), Andreas "skjervoy" Torbergsen (+$2,5m) and LokoIsback (+$2,44m).

About a week ago, it almost looked like the finnish poker pro Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies' losing streak had come to an end after a few winning sessions. However, it didn't take long before he started to lose big again. $311,000 is how much Ziigmund lost last week, which means that he has lost almost $1.7 million in October. One of the players who managed to win big against Ziigmund was harrington23. In one of the sessions between these two, Ziigmund was so tilted and frustrated that he decided not to continue playing.

Posted on 13 October 2010 by "T". |
Ernie Scherer III is the name of a poker player who did very well in different live tournaments between 2003-2006. In total he has won around $340,000 in different live tournaments. Unfortunately Scherer always found it very hard to hold on to his money, and the expenses always been greater than his incomes. Scherer was so buried in debts last year that he decided to take very, very drastic measures.
He drove from Las Vegas to his parents home in Pleasanton, California and stabbed them multiple times in the neck, then drove back to his home in Las Vegas, where his wife and baby son were waiting for him. Ernie Scherer III was less than a year away from inheriting upward of $1 million.

bellagio, robbed, Scott Montgomery.
Posted on 12 October 2010 by "T". |
According to Scott Montgomery's twitter, he was robbed at Bellagio in Las Vegas the other day. It all occurred in a bathroom during a tournament break. A person corned Montgomery and demand all his money or else he would be shot/stabbed. At first, he refused to give up his money, but when the man started to unwrap something in his hand, Montomery decided to hand over the $2k he had in his pocket.
Montgomery called for the security straight away but it took about 15 minutes before they showed up, and of course, the robber was long gone by that time. Scott Montgomery is very angry and disappointed with how the casino handled his case.

Posted on 11 October 2010 by "T". |
It ended up being 19-year-old Marek Sosnowski from Poland who took home Party Poker's Drive the Dream tournament this weekend. For the win he got an 2010 Aston Martin DBD9 Coupe, a very luxurious car worth around $150,000. However, there's a small problem - the winner doesn't have a drivers license! Well, he could always sell the car and get a nice bankroll for his poker career. What makes this win even more fantastic is that Sosnowski qualified for the final table through a freeroll at Party Poker!

Isildur1, who is rumored to be Viktor Blom from Sweden, has been quite active at the $100/$200 No-Limit tables at Full Tilt lately. We have seen him battle against, for example, Tom "durrr" Dwan, Dan "jungleman12" Cates and an unknown player called KTPOKP in the past couple of days (all sessions with very mixed results). Isildur1 has been doing well against Tom Dwan but not so well against many other players. In just one week's time, Isildur1 has lost a total of $402,000. However, he's not alone when it comes to losing huge amounts of money....

Tom "durrrr" Dwan ended last week in the best possible way at Full Tilt Poker. In just 2,362 hands, Dwan managed to win over 1,5 million dollars. Most of this money came from a thrilling heads-up battle against finnish poker star Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies at a $500/$1000 Pot Limit Omaha table. Four of the pots in this session topped the $275,000 mark, durrrr won all of them, including a monster pot of $416,996.

Yesterday it was finally time for a longer heads-up session between Tom "durrr" Dwan and the mystery swede Isildur1 again. They played at four $100/$200 NHL tables and managed to play over 3000 hands in about 6 hours. The match was very even most of the time, but thanks to a few big pots Isildur1 managed to walk away with about $120,000. After that this match was over, Isildur1 decided to continue. Now it was time for Isildur1 to take on Dan "jungleman12" Cates at the $100/$200 NLH tables. The match lasted for about 4 hours and was dominated, once again, by the american who won $170,000 from Isildur1.
Let's hope for more interesting high stakes games at Full Tilt Poker this week! Hopefully we will get to see some crazy heads-up sessions between durrrr and Isildur1 at the $200/$400 PLO tables.

David Vamplew, 23, made it to the final table 3rd in chips, but he was almost half a stack behind Kyle Bowker and poker legend John Juanda. These 3 remained in the top of the field until they were the last men standing. Kyle Bowker was first out and then it was Juanda and Vamplew who played heads-up for the EPT title. The heads-up was quite even at first, Juanda with a slight advantage though. After sometime, 2 big pots ended up on Juanda's side of the table and suddenly he had a 4-1 chip advantage. At this point, everything pointed Juanda's way and he was very close of winning his first EPT title.
Vamplew, however, had no plans whatsoever to give up and now he switched gears and started playing fantastic poker. After an amazing comeback, and with a bit of help from the poker gods, Vamplew took home the tournament and the first place prize of £900,000.

Marcus Petersson is the new swedish champion of poker. Petersson made it to the final table with a small stack, but somehow he managed to double up a couple of times and after 6 hours of play he was playing heads-up against Johan Beg. It only took one hand before both players were all in - Petersson with AA and Berg with AJ. Marcus Petersson's pocket aces, believe it or not, stood up all the way to the river and he's now the new swedish champion of poker. For the win he received the first place prize of €44,240.

Today it's finally time for the EPT London Main Event Final Table. Eight of 848 players have made it this far and they will now fight for a big piece of the huge prize pool, and of course the EPT title. Chip leader is Kyle Bowker (USA), closely followed by no one else than John Juanda (USA) who has won millions of dollars, played lots of final tables and also won 4 WSOP Bracelets. Both Bowker and Juanda have accumulated huge stacks and if nothing out of the ordinary happens on the final table today, then it's probably one of them who will take home the tournament and the first prize of £556k!
Here are the 8 finalists:
Kyle Bowker (USA) 7,165,000 John Juanda (USA) 7,075,000 David Vamplew (UK) 3,670,000 Artur Wasek (Poland) 2,250,000 Tom Marchese (USA) 1,535,000 Kayvan Payman (Canada) 1,29,5000 Per Ummer (Cyprus) 1,245,000 Fernando Brito (Portugal) 1,100,000

At the start of the Main Event, 346 players, full of expectations, took their seats at the Empire Casino in London. After 3 days of poker, 22 players remained and the big favorites to win the tournament were Phil Ivey, Viktor Blom (Isildur1) and Roland de Wolfe. However, only Roland de Wolfe (WSOP bracelet winner, EPT and WPT titles) made it to the final table. At the final table, de Wolfe continued playing very well and stayed in the top of the field for quite some time, but after losing 2 all ins against Nicolas Levi, he was short stacked and about to go out of the tournament. But somehow he still managed to stay alive while Nicolas Levi, who took the most of his chips, got knocked out in 5th place. Roland de Wolfe was, however, eliminated shortly after in 4th place.

Viktor Blom (Isiludur1 according to many) and Phil Ivey were the 2 big favorites to reach the final table (and even to win the tournament) when Day 4 of the WSOPE London Main Main Event started yesterday. Even though both of them played very good during during day 4, it still wasn't enough and neither of them made it to the final table.
Below are the 9 players who will sit down at the final table today and fight for some serious cash. You might recognize Roland de Wolfe, the English poker pro, among the finalists. Roland has a WSOP Bracelet, an EPT and a WPT title since before and he's the poker player with most experience on the final table.
