James Dempsey becomes a Red Pro at Full Tilt

Tags: 2010 wsop, James Dempsey, omaha, red pro, signs, sponsor.
Posted on 28 July 2010 by "T".

James Dempsey, 27, has won over $1 million dollars online and has also been very successful live. At the 2010 WSOP he won a $1,5k PLO event and ended up in second place in the $10k Omaha Hi/Lo event. In total he cashed in 4 events at the 2010 WSOP. Quite impressing if you ask me! It's clear that players like James Dempsey do not grow on trees, and Full Tilt probably realized the same thing when they signed him a few days ago.

James Dempsey played his first tournament as Red Pro in last Sunday's Poker Million at Full Tilt. However, he didn't do all that well this time, but he still has plenty of time to show the owners of Full Tilt that he deserves to be a Red Pro.

HighStakes: Unknown Russian wins big

Tags: full tilt poker, high stakes, LokoIsBack.
Posted on 27 July 2010 by "T".

The unknown Russian "NEKOTYAN" is not a newbie when it comes to playing high stakes. Even though he's not in the same "weight-class" as Ivey, durrr and other notables, "NEKOTYAN" still takes some shots at the nosebleed stakes once in a while, and last week he had a really good run at Full Tilt as he won $338k and ended up being the biggest winner.

Not far behind him in the top of last week's biggest winners is another unknown player called "LokolsBack" from Finland. However, it's still too early to say whether or not these 2 will continue to play this high and become regulars in the top winners/losers lists. The future will tell I guess.

Gus Hansen's never-ending nightmare

Tags: full tilt poker, gus hansen, high stakes.
Posted on 27 July 2010 by "T".

Gus Hansen had a terrible year at Full Tilt's nosebleed tables in 2009. At the end of the year he had lost $5 million dollars and was far the biggest loser. It can be very hard to get back in business and believe in your own game after such a nightmare year, but somehow Gus managed to keep a cool head and started off 2010 in the best possible way by winning about $2 millions.

However, the winning streak didn't last for long and in the last couple of months he has lost most of what he won. Last weekend was especially tough on Gus Hansen as he ended up losing almost $400k within a timeframe of 24 hours. Since 2007 Gus Hansen has now lost about $7 million dollars.

Julian Cohen wins ANZOT Queenstown

Tags: ANZOT Queenstown, australia, Julian Cohen, new zeeland, pokerstars.
Posted on 26 July 2010 by "T".

It ended up being Julian Cohen and Andew Watson who were the last 2 men standing in ANZOT (Australia New Zeeland Poker Tour) Queenstown. Andrew Watson had a 3-1 chip lead and most people had already counted out Cohen for the win. But somehow Cohen managed to keep a cool head and play his very best game, even though the difference between first and second prize was quite big.

Cohen managed to fight his way back into the game and overtake the chip lead. When he had the lead he also had full control over the game and could basically do whatever he wanted to. It didn't take long before he knocked out Watson and grabbed the first place prize of 73,630 AUD. This is Cohen's biggest cash ever in his poker career but hopefully not the last as he's a very talented player whose just at the starting blocks of his poker career.

Holyfield's new career

Tags: Evander Holyfield, george forman, mike tyson, poker.
Posted on 23 July 2010 by "T".

Evander Holyfield, 47, from the United States is a multiple world champion in boxing. Evander Holyfield is especially known for the classics fights against Mike Tyson and George Forman where he won quite easy. Now the ex-champ is taking on a new challenge in life - to work as spokesman and be a joint owner for a poker site.

The poker site Evander Holyfield has signed a contract with are quite unique as they are having real dealers instead of computers shuffling and dealing the cards. Whether or not Holyfield is good at poker, I have no clue about. However, if he plays poker live, I'm sure he get a lot of respect at the poker table. I mean, he's not the kind of guy you want to upset! Smile

HighStakes: Is another durrrr challenge about to start?

Tags: durrr challenge, full tilt poker, high stakes, jungleman12, pokerstars, tom dwan.
Posted on 23 July 2010 by "T".

Even though the durrr challenge between Tom Dwan (picture) and Patrik Antonius is still going on and never seems to end, Tom "durrrr" Dwan still wants to get another one going. Rumors saying that Tom "durrrr" Dwan is trying to get another challenge going has been circulating on the web for some time now. Many of these rumors claims that Tom Dwan has challenged jungleman12 (successful high stakes player - true identity currently not known) numerous times but never got any positive feedback.

However, now it seems seems like jungleman12 will accepted the challenge. During a small $100/$200 NLH game, durrrr proposed the challenge to jungleman12 in the chat and it seems like jungleman12 is considering to accept.

HighStakes: Ziigmund returns to the poker tables - sober

Tags: full tilt poker, high stakes., lari Ziigmund Sahamies.
Posted on 22 July 2010 by "T".

Ziigmund didn't show up in Las Vegas for the 2010 WSOP and he hasn't been playing almost anything at the nosebleed stakes lately. We are talking about very, very few hours of poker here, and usually he ended up losing big the few times he has played. This is usually a clear indication that something is very wrong. Well, thank god it was just due to holidays and nothing else.

Instead of playing poker online or traveling to Vegas, Ilari "Ziigmund" Sahamies has been busy with enjoying the summer in Finland and traveling to for example South Africa to watch football.

Full Tilt renews Million Dollar Cash Game sponsorship

Tags: durrrr, full tilt poker, Million Dollar Cash Game, phil hellmuth, phil ivey, sponsor.
Posted on 22 July 2010 by "T".

It is now official that Full Tilt Poker will continue to sponsor the Million Dollar Cash Game as they have renewed the contract for another 3 years. This year's Million Dollar Cash Game will be filmed in HD and will take place at an exclusive venue in London between 8th and 9th September. However, we will have to wait until January 2011 before it's broadcasted on Sky Sports.

According to the tournament director James Hopkins, we can expect to the see the strongest field ever in this year's Million Dollar Cash Game. Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan and Phil Hellmuth are just 3 of the huge names that will take part and make sure that we get to see poker at its best. And Who knows? Maybe we will get to see an even bigger pot than the $1.1 dollar pot between Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey in season 4. In fact that pot is the largest ever televised cash game pot.

HighStakes: Swede takes home $40k pot with royal flush

Tags: Ashton theASHMAN103 Griffin, high stakes, Joel Odonkor1 Nordkvist, pokerstars, royal flush.
Posted on 21 July 2010 by "T".

A very interesting hand was played out the other day at PokerStars when the Swedish poker pro Joel "Odonkor1" Nordkvist flopped a royal flush in an all in situation against his opponent Ashton "theASHMAN103" Griffin and took down a pot of nearly $40,000! The chance of getting a royal flush in Texas Holdem is 1 in 649,740, so you can probably figure out how great the feeling must be to take down such a big pot with this kind of hand!

Here is how the hand was played out:

PokerStars Game #46879706754: Hold'em No Limit ($100/$200 USD) - 2010/07/17 5:59:54 ET

Ted Forrest lost 23 kilos and won 2 million dollars!

Tags: challenge, Justin Smith, mike matusow, prop bet, Ted Forrest, weight bet.
Posted on 21 July 2010 by "T".

About 2 months ago, Ted Forrest, the american poker pro, received a crazy prop bet from his fiends Mike Matusow and Justin Smith. The prop bet meant that if Ted Forrest could lose 50 pounds (22,68 kg) before June 15, he would get $2 million dollars. Ted Forrest, who weighed 85 kilo at that point, accepted the prop bet almost straight away. The challenge was on and Ted went on a strict diet!

When Ted stepped on the scale 2 months later, he was just skin and bones and weighed around 60 kilo. He had lost about 23 kilos and accomplished the impossible - to lose 26% of his body weight or about half a kilo almost every day for 2 months.

WSOP: Changes in WSOP Circuit Tour

Tags: 2010 wsop, buy-in, events, lower, main event, WSOP Circuit Tour.
Posted on 20 July 2010 by "T".

It was only about 2 days ago since the final event, the Main Event, at this year's WSOP came to an end. Well, there's still the final table to be played in September. Anyhow, after nearly 2 months of WSOP-action in Vegas, one would almost assume that the WSOP crew would take some time off, but instead of taking a break they are working day and night on this year's World Series of Poker Circuit Tour.

The first tournament on the WSOP Circuit Tour will be played on August 19, and in order to make sure that the tournament will grow even bigger this year the WSOP crew has lowered the buy-in in hope that even more players will take part. In total 8 events with the buy-in of $1,500 will be played on each stop. Of course there will also be a championship event as well, however, the buy-in for this tournament is a bit more expensive - $10,000.

HighStakes - Sunday results: Minus for 2 of the world's finest poker players

Tags: durrrr, full tilt poker, gus hansen, lars luzak, pokerstars, tom dwan.
Posted on 20 July 2010 by "T".

Many of the poker world's best have retuned to the online high stakes tables in the past week. Even though the action isn't like what we were used to see a few months back, it still looks like we will have a quite interesting ending of the summer ahead of us.

Two players that haven't played much online lately are the poker giants Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Gus Hansen. Unfortunately none of them had a great comeback on Sunday and they both decided to call it a day as "losers". We are not talking about huge amounts though, at least not for Tom Dwan who has been running extremely well this year.

2010 WSOP Main Event: November Nine is set!

Posted on 19 July 2010 by "T".

The 2010 WSOP Main Event is finally down to the final table as there are only 9 players left. However, we will have to wait until November 6th for the televised final table. Even though the final table doesn't include so many notables as we maybe would have hoped for, I'm still sure that it will be a super exciting one. I will especially keep an eye on the only non-pro Cuong "Sol" Nguyen and Michael "The Grinder" Mizrach who we used to see in high stakes poker a few years ago. Anyhow, here are the 9 finalists and brief information about each one of them.

Video: WPT Bellagio Cup VI: Moritz Kranich takes home the tournament

Tags: bellagio cup VI, ept, justin smith, Moritz Kranich, phil ivey, wpt.
Posted on 16 July 2010 by "T".

It ended up being Phil Ivey, Justin "boostedJ" Smith and Moritz "Cattenatio" Kranich who were the 3 last players at the final table in World Poker Tour Bellagio Cup VI in Las Vegas. Phil Ivey doesn't need any presentation, but the other 2 might not be that familiar to many. Both Smith and Kranich have been extremely successful online and live in the past few years. For example Smith ended up 3rd in last year's Bellagio Cup and Kranich took home this year's EPT Deauville.

Anyhow, it came to be the german poker pro Kranich who took home the tournament after a long heads up against Justin Smith. For the win he received nothing less than $875,150. This is Moritz first WPT title.

2010 WSOP Main Event: Theo Jorgensen in the lead (78 players left)

Tags: 2010, johnny lodden, main event, Theo Jorgensen, William Thorson, wsop.
Posted on 16 July 2010 by "T".

205 players returned to Amazon Room at Rio Hotel & Casino to play Day 6 of the main event yesterday. At around midnight, the tournament crew called it a day and there were only 78 players remaining. In the lead is the danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen with 9,300,000, and almost 2 million in chips behind him are Michael Mizrachi and John Racener, both from USA.

Theo Jorgensen has played extremely well in the past few days and he has been advancing in the field every day. If you ask me, I think that he deserves to be where he is right now. I'm 100% sure he will make it to the final table if he continues playing this well. And who knows, maybe he will be the second dane ever to win a Main Event? Another player to watch out for is the PokerStars Pro William Thorson from Sweden. William has been running extremely well in live tourneys this year and I hope that he will be one of the 27 players who make it to the final day before the tournament goes on a break.

2010 WSOP Main Event: Day 5 is over. 21-year-old in the lead!

Tags: Breeze Zuckerman, Evan Lamprea, johnny chan, pokerstars, theo Jorgensen, wsop main event.
Posted on 15 July 2010 by "T".

Day 5 of the 2010 WSOP Main Event finished about an hour ago. It was a super thrilling day with huge swings, at least for some of the players. Chip leader of the tournament is the PokerStars sponsored player Evan Lamprea, 21, with about 3,5 million in chips. Not far behind him are notables such as the danish poker pro Theo Jorgensen and also the poker legend Johnny Chan. Unfortunately only 1 woman made it through Day 5. Her name is Breeze Zuckerman (picture) and she will bring about an average stack to Day 6 of the tournament. Best of luck to her!

Ladies and gentleman, the 2010 WSOP Main Event start getting very exciting now! Tonight, 205 players will return to the tables to play Day 6 of the tournament. It's almost impossible to predict which players that will be in the top after this day comes to an end. We don't have any big chip leader(s) yet and most of the remaining players have decent stacks to work with.

Scotty Nguyen: "No way baby"

Tags:
Posted on 15 July 2010 by "T".

Scotty Nguyen, the 1998 WSOP Main Event Champ, got a crazy bet from one of his opponents in this year's main event. The unknown player offered Scotty 20 times the money if could avoid saying his favorite experssion "baby" for a whole day. In other words, if Scotty for example betted $10k and managed to avoid to say "baby" for 24 hours, he would get $200,000! Sounds like an amazing chance to make some fast money, doesn't it? However, Scotty decided to decline the amazing chance of making some good money.

"I just looked at him and laughed. There's not a chance in the world I could win that bet." said Scotty in his video blog.

About an hour ago, Scotty Nguyen was sent off the rail in Day 5 of the 2010 WSOP Main Event. He was all in for about 300,000 with ASpadeJSpadeand got called by Mads Wissings's KClubKClub

The board came down QHeart7Heart3Spade10ClubJHeart and the 1998 WSOP Champ went out just as Day 5 was about to end.

2010 WSOP Main Event: Johnny Chan in the top of the field

Tags: 2010 WSOP Main Event, Hasan Habib, Johnny Chan, Johnny Lodden, Scotty Nguyen.
Posted on 14 July 2010 by "T".

Day 4 of the 2010 WSOP Main Event is now in the books. 574 of 7,319 players are still in the tournament and all of them are guaranteed to get a share from the enormous prize pool of nearly $69 million. Chip leader of the tournament is Tony Dunst from Las Vegas, Nevada who sits on a stack of 1,546,000 (average stack 381k).

There are several notables left in the field (Johnny Chan, Hasan Habib, Johnny Lodden, Scotty Nguyen etc -- all top 100), with 4 days to go before the tournament is down to the final table and goes on a break. In a couple of hours day 5 of the main event kicks off. It has been a very interesting tournament to follow so far and hopefully the rest of the tournament will be even better.

We haven't yet decided what to do with the Mob Betting game now that the World Cup is over. Good news for poker players in Florida

Tags: florida, gambling, gaming law, high stakes, poker, UIGEA.
Posted on 02 July 2010 by "T".

Very good news for poker players in Florida. On June 1, 2010, a new state law went into effect. The new law allows card rooms across the state to extend the opening hours and raise the buy-ins for no-limit poker games, as well. High stakes games will now be legal at 23 poker rooms run by horse and dog tracks and jai alai frontons. The new law also will let the Seminole Tribe to lift limits at its seven casinos, including the Hard Rock Casino in Tampa. Poker tournaments were held to a $1,000 maximum buy-in before, but now that limit has been removed plus that cardrooms at parimutuel facilities can now be open for 18 hours Sunday-Thursday, and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.

Many poker analysts believe that the new law will open the door for televised tournaments played by pros to take place in the state of Florida.
