Miss Finland - Ziigmund's new date

Tags: Ilari ziigmund Sahamies, miss finland, Viivi Pumpanen.
Posted on 06 September 2010 by "T".

Ilari "ziigmund" Sahamies is not only known for being one of the world's best poker players but also for being a real charmer who's dating lots of beautiful women. He dated, for example, the finnish model Hanna-Leena Turpeinen a while ago. But things are moving fast in Ziigmund's life and now he has someone else "on the hook". According to the finnish magazine Seiska, Ilari "ziigmund" Sahamies and Viivi Pumpanen, 22, were seen together in Ziigmund's Mercedes in central Helsinki not long ago.

When a journalist of the magazine asked Ziigmund if he's dating Miss Finland at the moment, he didn't deny it at the same time as he asked the journalist, with a slightly worried tone in his voice, if he had any pictures of them together.

EPT Vilamoura: Daniel Negreanu wins Fairways and Felts Challenge

Tags: Daniel Negreanu, EPT Vilamoura, Fairways and Felt.
Posted on 06 September 2010 by "T".

14 players paid the buy-in of €1,100 and entered the Fairways and Felts Challenge the other day. These 14 players were divided into teams on the Pinhal Golf Course and received poker chips accordingly to how well they did. After a hard day on the golf course all of them sat down at the poker table with the chips they had accumulated.

After 5 hours of poker Daniel Negreanu stood as the champion after defeating Pieter de Korver (also a PokerStars Pro) in heads up. For the win Daniel received the first place prize of 8,000 Euro. Not a lot of money for someone like Daniel Negreanu, but I'm still sure that he was really happy with the win since the Fairways and Felts Challenge was one of the main reason he came to play EPT Vilamoura.

EPT Vilamoura: Toby Lewis takes home the first place prize of €467,835

Tags: ept vilamoura, european poker tour, final table, main event, Martin Jacobsen, Toby Lewis.
Posted on 03 September 2010 by "T".

It ended up being Martin Jacobsen (second last in chips when the final table begun but was big chip leader during Day 4 - 441,000) from Sweden and Toby Lewis (chip leader when the final table started - 3,322,000) from UK who were the last 2 men standing on the EPT Vilamoura Final table. Even though Lewis had a big chip lead when they started playing the heads-up, Jabobsen still managed to fight back and brought things back to square after some time. However, when both players had quite equal stacks, it all came to an end after this hand...

HighStakes Report August: Gus Hansen's nightmare continues...

Posted on 02 September 2010 by "T".

Gus Hansen's nightmare at the poker tables online never seems to end. He has been one of the poker players who have lost the most money ever single week/month this year. Last month, for example, he ended up losing 2.8 milion dollars and took home the first spot in the list of August biggest losers online.

I must admit that he has been very unlucky as well. But still - a big poker star like Gus Hansen shouldn't lose this much money ever month. He must take a good luck at his own game and try to find out what he's doing wrong. Maybe the best thing for Gus would be to play a bit lower stakes for now? Well, somehow I doubt that he will do that, at the same time as I hope he will start winning soon again. We can not afford to lose a player like Gus Hansen from the high stakes scene.

The new durrrr challenge between Tom "durrr" Dwan and Daniel "Jungleman12" Cates has been running for a few days now. Even though they only have played 2 sessions of No Limit Holdem so far, Jungleman12 already has taken the lead with almost $700,000!

According to Full Tilt Poker's blog, Dan Cates has won 61% of all pots and has a VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money into the Pot) of 69%. Dwan's VPIP is slightly lower at 65% and Cates has a win rate of about 25 BB/100.

jymaster11 wins another big tournament at Full Tilt

Tags: full tilt, Jordan Jymaster 11 Young, sunday, tournament.
Posted on 30 August 2010 by "T".

Jordan "Jymaster 11" Young has done it again. Last night, about 1 month after winning Full Tilt's 2 biggest Sunday tournaments, he took home the $200,000 Guarantee rebuy tournament at Full Tilt Poker for a first place prize of $79,784. What makes the win even more impressive is that he had to defeat 3 Red Pros (3rd - Damian Salas, 5th - Peter Feldman, 9th - Jono Karamalikis) on the final table.

Jordan Young is, at least if you ask me, one of the best online poker tournament players in the world at the moment. I mean, he has won 3 of Full Tilt's biggest Sunday tournaments in just a month's time - it can't just be luck! Or? Some people say that he has been extremely lucky and that's the reason behind his great success. Well, it takes much more than that to win big tournaments where lots of money is up for grabs. Also keep in mind that many of the players taking part in these tournaments are pros. It will be interesting to see if Full Tilt (or maybe even some other poker site) will offer him some kind of sponsorship contract soon. I'm sure it would be a great investment!

EPT Vilamoura: 221 players are waiting for Day 2 to start

Tags: Daniel Mineri, EPT Vilamoura, Sorel Mizzi.
Posted on 30 August 2010 by "T".

The Main Event of EPT Vilamoura is about to start any minute now. 221 out of 384 players have survived Day 1 and made it to Day 2. Daniel Mineri, Sorel Mizzi (picture) and Antonio Esfandiari are, for example, big names that have been doing very well so far in the tournament. All of them are in the top of the remaining field of players. Chip leader, however, is Leonind Bilokur from Russia. Bilokur has accumulated 161,200 chips so far and played extremely well. But there is no time for him to sit back and relax yet since there are a few players who are very close behind him.

The 384 players who entered the tournament have created a prize pool of almost 1.9 million euro which means that the top prize pays almost half a million euro. Ladies and gentlemen, with so much money up for grabs and so many notables left it will for sure be very exciting to follow the rest of the tournament.

HighStakes: Gus Hansen's attack on Phil Ivey

Tags: angry, attack, cole south, fight, gus hansen, phil ivey.
Posted on 27 August 2010 by "T".

When Cole South and Gus Hansen were playing a tough H.O.R.S.E. heads-up match the other day, Phil Ivey and Patrik Antonius decided to join them at the table. However, neither Cole South or Hansen wanted them at the table as they wanted to move on with their heads-up.

Patrik Antonius left straight away when he understood it was a heads-up game and that they didn't want any other players at the table. But Phil Ivey had no plans whatsoever to leave. Both Cole South and Hansen tried to convince Phil Ivey to leave the table several times, but it was like talking to a wall. Phil Ivey refused to leave the table or answer them. After a while Ivey's ignorance became too much for Gus Hansen....

WPT: Andy Frankberger wins WPT Legends of Poker

Tags: andy frankberger, joe hachem, joe sebok, wpt legends of poker.
Posted on 27 August 2010 by "T".

When World Poker Tour's Legends of Poker tournament was about to be settled the other day one got to watch a very anonymous final table. Some big names made it to the money (Joe Hachem, Joe Sebok etc) but not even close to the final table. Last notable to leave the tournament was Jonathan Little - 12th place. Anyhow, it ended up being Andy Franberger from New York who took down the final table after many hours of play. For the win he received nothing less than $750,000 and a free entry to the WPT Final at Bellagio next year. I can only imagine how much this win must mean to him since his biggest cash before this one was only $2000. It will be interesting to see if he will play as well in the WPT Final next year.

1. Andy Frankenberger, $750 000

2. Kyle Wilson, $370 000

3. Tom Lee, $174 772

4. Tom Braband, $109 000
5. Jared Jaffee, $86 000

6. Franco Brunetti, $63 000
7. Steve Reitzfeld, $45 000

8. Wade Woelfel, $35 000
9. John Smith, $29 000

10. Hoan Ly, $24 000

HighStakes: Durrrr and Ivey make up for losses from last week

Posted on 26 August 2010 by "T".

Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Phil Ivey were one the top 5 list of last week's biggest losers. Both of them lost a few hundred thousand dollars each that week, but it didn't take long before they got their revenge. Yesterday, Ivey and durrrr were playing extremely well and ended up grabbing the 1st ($588k) and 2nd ($530k) places on the biggest winners list. Let's hope that the winnings keep rolling in for these two - because it's a lot thanks to them we have such fantastic and crazy high stakes games going at the moment.

The new law means, for example, that's is no longer possible for anyone in South Africa to play poker or organize poker tournaments online.

People who break against the new law will get huge fines and also risk time behind bars. The max penalty, however, is a R10 million fine and up to 10 years in jail, or both.

Poker player spitted dealer in the face

Posted on 25 August 2010 by "T".

Mesbah Khaffaji got so angry after losing a hand in poker that he spitted in the dealers face. Now, he's arrested for assault. It all occurred at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles a while ago. Mesbah Khaffaji was eating at the poker table while playing No Limit Texas Holdem against some other people. After losing a hand where lots of money was up for grabs, he got so frustrated and angry that he couldn't control his feelings and spitted out some of his food - straight in the dealers face.

The casino's security guards intervened straight away and handed over Mesbah Khaffaji to the police. He was arrested, suspected on reasonable grounds, for assault but was released shortly after, in the wait for court proceedings, when he paid the bail of $20,000

Gus Hansen lost all his money - asked Cole South for a loan

Tags: Cirque du Soleil, cole south, full tilt, gus hansen, Guy Laliberté, loan.
Posted on 25 August 2010 by "T".

The danish poker pro Gus Hansen has been running extremely bad in the past couple of years. In the beginning of this year, however, he started off in the best possible way by winning a few hundred thousands and it almost seemed like he was going on a winning streak and would take back some of the money he lost.

But it didn't take long before he started losing huge amounts again. And now it almost seem like 2010 will be his worst year ever as he has been on the top 5 list of the weekly losers many, many times this year. Not a very good sign even when it comes to some of the world's richest and best high stakes players.

HighStakes: DIN_FRU won $400k last week!

Tags: bonus, din_fru, erik sagström, full tilt poker, paradise poker, rakeback.
Posted on 24 August 2010 by "T".

After summarizing last week's high stakes games, it stands clear that a Swede with the alias DIN_FRU grabbed the first place with almost $400,000 won. DIN_FRU is a very familiar face at Full Tilt Poker where he usually plays PLO and Omaha Hi/Lo against some of the world's best poker players.

But even though he's a well-known figure at Full Tilt many don't know that it's actually high stakes legend Erik Sagström who's hiding behind the alias. Erik Sagström has been quite anonymous lately when it comes to big cashes. Hopefully the top 1 spot on the previous week's biggest winner list will make him play even better and score higher.

Tom Dwan VS Luke Schwartz in new durrrr challenge

Tags: durrrr challenge, luke schwartz, tom dwan, _fullflush1_.
Posted on 19 August 2010 by "T".

It's nothing new that the poker giants Tom "durrrr" Dwan and Luke "_FullFlush1_" Schwartz don't like each other. For over a year both of them have been trash-talking each other in poker chats and interviews. However, it's probably the sandwich thief Luke Schwartz who has been the worst trash-talker of them.

Every single time Luke has gotten the opportunity to talk bad about durrrr, he does so. For example, Luke said "I hate durrrr. I hate his face, his voice, his eyes. I hate everything about him" in a recent interview.

One of these stops will take place in October outside the U.S.  - Emerald Casino in South Africa.

However, according to the WSOP Circuit crew, there might even be more stops added to the tour. New for this season is that there will be a big final at Caesars Palace in April next year. One can qualify for this final, for example, via a new ranking system that was introduced this year.

The seven-year-old poker prodigy

Tags: 2010 wsop, alexa fisher, poker prodigy.
Posted on 18 August 2010 by "T".

Seven-year-old Alexa Fisher from Cibolo, Texas, finished first class in school this summer and got to chose where she wanted to go on holiday with her family. Now, you might think that she choose Disneyland or a similar place that kids her age usually dreams of going to, but that's not what Alexa wanted. Instead she choose to go to the 2010 WSOP in Las Vegas and watch the best poker players in the world and get their autographs.

Alexa is, as you already might have figured out, crazy about poker and according to many poker pros who've seen her play, she's a poker prodigy that probably will succeed in the future - when she's old enough to play for real money. Despite her young age, Alexa Fisher already knows how to play most of the major poker games, and she already knows how to deal and shuffle cards, bluff, raise, check and fold.

After many long days of poker it was finally time for the final table of the EPT Tallinn Main Event yesterday. On the final table were many new faces, some with more experience than others. The most experienced player, however, was Arnaud Mattern (chip leader) from France who had won an EPT before and now had the chance of writing history as the first player ever to win 2 events on the tour. But unfortunately it wasn't Aanaud Mattern's day (3rd place) and instead it was the norwegian poker pro Kevin Stani who took home the tournament for €400,000 after beating Konstantin Bilyaue in heads up poker.

Final table results:
1. Kevin Stani, €400 000

2. Konstantin Bilyauer, €250 000
