Posted on 08 June 2010 by "T".

In the middle of May, we could read about Phil Laak and his plans on breaking the world record in staying awake as long as possible and play poker. The old record was held by Paul Zimbler who last year managed to stay awake for 78 hours. Anyhow, a couple of days ago, Phil Laak Laak started his world record attempt at Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Lots of poker players around the globe have been following Phil Laak's struggle via live streams on the net. His fans must be really happy with the outcome as he managed to break the old record with almost 2 days. Phil Laak stayed awake and played poker for 115 hours straight - almost 5 days of poker!

High Stakes: Big success for Isildur1 and Antonius last week

Tags: full tilt poker, high stakes, isildur1, patrik antonius.
Posted on 08 June 2010 by "T".

Last week came to be a week that poker players from the nordic countries should be proud of. Not less than 3 players from Sweden and Finland made it to the top 5 last week, and I got a feeling that there are more great results to come from 2 of them, Isildur1 and Patrik Antonius. Both Isildur1 and Patrik Antonius had a fantastic flow in their game last week, and both of them also ended up being the top 2 winners of the week. Isildur1 played around 18,000 hands and won $175k and Patrik won almost double that amount, $345k.

Is this week going to be as thrilling as the previous week? Is the WSOP and the nice weather going to affect the action online? We will have to wait and see I guess. Smile

Las Vegas: He has lost $204 million in just 1 year!

Tags: Caesars Palace, Harrahs casino rio, las vegas, Terrance Watanabe.
Posted on 07 June 2010 by "T".

The businessman Terrance Watanabe has lost more money at a commercial casino than anyone else has ever done before - according to professor and gambling expert William Thompson at University of Nevada. As you probably already have figured out, it's not small amounts we're talking about here. Terrance Watanabe has lost $204 million in just 1 year at different casinos in Las Vegas. Not enough with that. Terrance is now also risking 28 years behind bars for a false check he issued, in order to pay off his debts of 14.7 million dollars, to Harrah's casino Rio and Caesars Palace.

According to Terrance, he's not owe them anything as they had promised to give him a 30% discount on everything he lost. Terrance has also opened a civil rights case against Harrah's. He claims that they have been giving him prescription drugs, alcohol and other things to keep him happy while losing millions of dollars. However, he has accepted the fact that he has a problem with his gambling and he doesn't want any of the money he lost back.

We will probably hear more about this very soon as the case will be up in court on the 12th of June.

Jose Barbero wins another LAPT title!

Tags:
Posted on 07 June 2010 by "T".

Just a few months ago, Jose Barbero from Argentina won LAPT (Latin American Poker Tour) Punta Del Este in Uruguay and won $279,330 (306 players). This weekend, he did it again. Barbero defeated a field of 384 players in LAPT Lima and took home the first prize of $250,000. Jose Barbero has now became a part of poker history as he is the only one who has won 2 tournaments on the tour. To win 2 tournaments on the same tour within such a short time frame is an amazing achievement. A big congratulations to Jose Barbero. I'm sure we will hear a lot more about this man in the future!

Final table results:
1. Jose "Nacho" Barbero (Argentina), $250 000

2. Ben Barrows (USA), $144 000

3. Erick Cabrera (Peru), $88 400
4. Ismael Cádiz (Chile), $65 100
5. Silvio Martins (Brazil), $46 500

6. Rene Aguilar (Chile), $37 300
7. Carlos Herrera (Colombia), $28 000
8. Valerio Valera (Venezuela), $18 600

Dutch man arrested for murder

Tags: chile, joran van der sloot, lapt, murder, natalee holloway, Stephany Flores.
Posted on 04 June 2010 by "T".

Exactly 5 years after Joran Van der Sloot was questioned for the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, he has now been linked to the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Flores, whose body was found in Lima on Wednesday. Joran Van der Sloot was stopped and questioned by police in central Chile after traveling hundreds of miles south of the border.

However, no arrest warrant has been issued - though he's still one of the main suspects. So, what does all this have to do with poker? The Latin American Poker Tour was being held close to where Van der Sloot was stopped, and rumors say that he was in that area to take part in the tournament. We will probably hear more about this in the next few days.

WSOP 2010: A bracelet worth 2 million dollars

Tags: 2010 wsop, daniel negreanu, durrrr, phil ivey, tom dwan.
Posted on 03 June 2010 by "T".

To win a WSOP bracelet is for many the greatest achievement that can be reached in an entire poker career. Of course there are a few who think that a WSOP bracelet is piece of junk when others have so many bracelets that they even decide to sell 1 of them (I'm referring to Patrik Antonius and T.J. Cloutier).

Anyhow, someone who's really longing for his very first bracelet this year is Tom "durrrr" Dwan. Dwan has been extremely successful online in the past few years and he has won over $50 million dollars throughout his career.

2010 WSOP: Player banned for life

Tags: 2010 wsop, banned, Jack Effel, Michael Craig.
Posted on 02 June 2010 by "T".

Have you ever wondered about different ways of getting banned from a casino or poker tournament? You could start arguing with the staff or steal a sandwich. It will for sure work, just ask Luke Schwartz if you don't believe me. So, what does it take to get banned for life from the World Series of Poker? This is a story about a man who got banned for life the other day, according to Michael Craig's (poker pro) blog.

"How do you get banned for life from the World Series of Poker? According to Tournament Director Jack Effel, "You don't take someone else's chips." This is apparently what happened to the player who escorted from the Amazon Room during the third level of play in the $1,000 NLHE on Saturday afternoon."

2010 WSOP - $50k Poker Player's Championship: Only 3 players left

Tags: 000 poker players championship, David Oppenheim $50, Michael Mizrachi, Vladimir Schmelev.
Posted on 02 June 2010 by "T".

There are only 3 players left in the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship: Michael Mizrachi (6,900,000), Vladimir Schmelev (5,925,000) and David Oppenheim (picture - 4,500,000). It has been a very interesting final table so far with lots of swings. For a while, David Oppenheim who started the final table very short stacked had a massive chip lead and Michael Mizrachi was almost out.

Now, Oppenheim is last and Mizrachi first. In other words, very entertaining poker to watch. The blinds are at the moment 45,000/90,000 with a 25k ante, so we can expect the game to go on for a few more hours. The winner of the tournament will get $1,559,046, the second place finisher will get $963,375, and the next one to hit the rail will get $603,348. The 2010 WSOP couldn't start in a better way!

2010 WSOP - $50k Poker Player's Championship: The brothers are closing in on the final table

Tags: 2010 wsop, michael mizrachi, poker players championship, robert mizrachi.
Posted on 01 June 2010 by "T".

There are only 10 players left in the $50,000 Poker Player's Championship and we are probably only a few moments away from the final table. Next player to leave the tournament gets $152,739 and the remaining players will fight for the really big money. In the lead is Robert Mizrachi with 3,125,000, closely followed by David Baker with 3,095,000.

Ladies and gentlemen, there is going to be an amazing final table (no matter who's going out next) in WSOP's most expensive tournament. Most remarkable about the remaining field of players has to be that both the brothers Robert and Michael Mizrachi are still in the tournament.

High Stakes: Isildur1 returns to the tables

Tags: brian townsend, cole south, comeback, high stakes, isildur1, patrik antonius.
Posted on 01 June 2010 by "T".

In the past 1,5 month, Isildur1 almost hasn't played anything. Last week, however, he finally made a small comeback and played about 8000 hands. Lots and lots of spectators were following their favorite mystery swede and watched him win about $50k. Even though Isildur1 won - there is not much to say about the sessions he played. No remarkable plays whatsoever.

Are we ever going to see Isildur1 play the same crazy games as back in 2009? Many Isildur1 followers seem to have their doubts about that. Personally, I'm quite sure that it's not the last time we get to see Isildur1 winning and losing huge amounts of money. Lets hope I'm right!

German police has just announced that another suspect for the robbery at EPT Berlin has been arrested. 6 people have now been arrested for being involved in the robbery at EPT Berlin, but still the police has only found about €4000 of €250,000. In other words, a lot of money is still missing and it also seems like it will remain that way.

INFO:The robbery at EPT Berlin took place in march this year and the news hit the headlines on all poker related newspapers around the globe. Everything was caught on tape and it didn't take a long time before the police could arrest some of the people who had been involved. At first, it was said that the robbers got away with more than €800,000. Later on however, the amount was said to be around €250,000

The final table included 4 poker dealers, 1 dealer for other casino games, 2 floor staff, 1 bartender and 1 office worker. It ended up being a poker dealer from Village Clubb Casino in California who took home the tournaments and the first prize of $71,424.

Won £9.7 million - now everything is gone

Tags: dustman, lottery, lotto, Michael Carroll, yale.
Posted on 27 May 2010 by "T".

Michael Carroll, 27, became extremely rich 8 years ago when he took home the jackpot in a big lottery. Michael was at that time 19-years-old and living in small town in England. He had a quite bad reputation at that time because of his criminal past, and it didn't take long before he got the nickname "Lotto Lour" by the press. Anyhow, as a multi-millionaire Michael quit his daytime job and started to spend his fortune on bad investments and lots of drugs. Back in 2006, he ended up in yale for 9 months because of a fight he got into. Today, he's a father of two, but the money is all gone and now he's selling his house and also aiming to get back his old job as a dustman.

So how could everything go so wrong for him? There are probably many, many reasons. Anyhow, this is what Michael Carroll said in an interview with BBC.

"If you give £9.7 million to a 19-year-old, what do you think is going to happen?"

Gianluigi signs with PokerStars

Posted on 25 May 2010 by "T".

Gianluigi Buffon, 32, won the World Cup back in 2006 with his Italy. And right now he and the rest of the Italian team are preparing for 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Gianluigi is according to many one of the world's best and most successful goalkeepers ever. Even though Gianluigi probably is super busy with his football career, he still seems to have some spare time for other interests as well as he just signed with PokerStars and now will represent them (together with the rest of the team - Mats Sundin, Boris Becker, Orel Hershiser etc) in major poker tournaments around the globe.

"I want to accomplish a lot in life. And even though this contract means that I will have a very busy schedule, I still want to do it because I love to play poker. And to get the chance to play for the world's biggest poker site is both an honor and a challenge. I'm looking forward to play against the rest of Team PokerStars." says Gianluigi in an interview.

Posted on 25 May 2010 by "T".

The Ivey Room, a new poker room for high stakes poker games, opened up at Aria Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas last weekend. As you probably already have figure out the poker room has borrowed the name of the world's most successful poker player, Phil Ivey. The Ivey Room celebrated its opening by having a $1,000,000 VIP tournament where the player who knocked out Phil Ivey got $100,000. The winner of the tournament got the chance to play a heads-up against Phil Ivey for $250,000.

Chino Reem was the one who knocked out Phil Ivey from the tournament, and Larry Litton won the tournament and got to play against Phil Ivey. However, he didn't manage to beat Phil Ivey heads up. We will probably hear a lot more about The Ivey Room during the 2010 WSOP.

Raid against poker club

Tags: krukan, police, raid, razzia, stockholm, sweden.
Posted on 24 May 2010 by "T".

The poker club Krukan in Stockholm is the biggest poker club in Sweden since it opened last year. Krukan is known to be a serious club where no shady business whatsoever is going on. However, sometimes that's not even enough. Last Friday the police (by order of the lottery inspection and office of the public prosecutor) paid them a visit. Around 80-100 players were at that time in the club, playing tournaments and cash games. The police stopped all games at once, took everyones personal details and confiscated all chips/tokens.
