Last Thursday, The 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship kicked off at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. However, when it was time for the 16 players from the Spades bracket to take their seats - 1 player was missing: Viktor Blom.
Mike "The Mouth" Matusow is the winner of the 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Championship! Matusow defeated Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi in the first round, Viktor "Isildur1" Blom in the second, Barry Greenstein in the third, John Hennigan in the quarterfinals, Scott Seiver in the semifinals and then faced Phil Hellmuth in the best-of-three-series final.
The first round of the 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship finished a few moments ago, with 32 players moving on to Round 2. One of the most interesting matches of Round 1 was the one between Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Andrew Lichtenberger, who Daniel Negreanu predicted would win the tournament.
The 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship ($20,000 buy-in -- invitation-only) begins today and runs for the next 2 days. Viktor Blom, Phil Ivey, Phil Hellmuth, Dan Cates and Tom Dwan are a few of the well-known players who take part in the tournament (64 players in total). Yesterday Daniel Negreanu announced on twitter that he had dropped out of the 2013 NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship ($25k buy-in - invitation-only). He didn't say why he had decided to withdraw from the tournament, but he promised to explain in a video later on. Daniel kept his promise as he posted a video last night in which he explained his decision.
On Tuesday, the 2012 European Poker Awards took place at the Aviation Club De Paris (a gambling club/casino in central Paris, France). Kara Scott was the host of the night and received the award Poker Personality of the Year.

Two men are each being held on $500,000 bail at the Multnomah County Detention Center because they are being accused of robbing a women in Portland of her approximately $1,000 video poker winnings. The victim told police that she had been at a bar with Nickolas D. Fisher, 22, and Joshua Dean Lauritsen, 25, on the night of January 6. Later that night, she was getting a lift in Lauritsen's car. Vanessa Selbst made history last night when she won the 2013 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure $25k High Roller, earning $1,424,420. The 28-year-old Team PokerStars Pro now has more than $6 million to her name, which means that she's the biggest female winner in tournament poker history (about $1.1 more than former number 1: Kathy Libert).

Dimitar Danchev, 27, who finished second in the 2011 EPT San Remo Main Event, is the newest PokerStars Caribbean Adventure champion! Danchev won his seat in the main event through a $700 qualifier, and after six days of play he had turned his investment into an increadible $1,859,000 (total prize pool $9,573,900 - 987 players). Danchev, who primarily is a cash game player, now has more than $1 million in live tournament winnings and is the biggest tournament winner in Bulgarian poker history.

Another day has come to an end at the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure, and Patrick Kelly (1,750,000) is leading the tournament with only 59 remaining players. Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi failed to make it through the day, but his brother Robert survived with 783,000 chips. Joe Serock, who just like "The Grinder", was among the top 10 stack when day 3 started - continued playing well and will head into to Day 4 with 1,3 million chips (2nd place).
All the remaining players are guaranteed a minimum of $26,000, with the chance of taking down the first place prize of $1,859,000! Day 4 begins Friday at noon ET. We will be back with a final table recap on Monday morning!
On tuesday, just before Day 1B of the PCA 2013 Main Event started, Daniel Negreanu revealed that PokerStars had signed Jake Cody. The 24-year-old Brit is the youngest Triple Crown winner in poker history. And believe it or not but he completed the triple crown (WPT, EPT and WSOP titles) in just 16 months at the age 22. As of today, his total live tournament winnings exceed $3 million dollars.
"PokerStars always looks for young up-and-coming ambassadors for the game and I feel like we've found a gem. The youngest ever winner of the Triple Crown. He's won a WPT, a World Series of Poker bracelet and more importantly an EPT. He combines poker skill with a gentlemanly demeanour as is expected in a PokerStars Team Pro. Day 2 of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event brought 501 players from Day 1A and Day 1B. After about 7,5 hours of play, the field had been narrowed down to 172 - with Nicolas Godoy (picture) out in front with 724,200! Ashton Griffin, who brought the biggest stack to Day 2, made it through the day but only has 123,900 left to gamble with. Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Joe Serock continued playing great during Day 2 and are among the 10 biggest stacks heading to Day 3.
Now, only 28 players need to be eliminated before everyone is guaranteed a minimum payday of $15k. But of course that's peanuts compared to the money on the final table - where the winner will take home an increadible $1,859,000! Check back tomorrow for another update!
Just like the organisers predicted, Day 1B of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event attracted a massive field. A total of 649 players entered the second starting day and lots of familiar faces could be spotted at the tables, including actor Jason Alexander, sports star Michael Phelps and poker pros Tom Dwan, Phil Hellmuth, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi and Phil Ivey.
Approximately 375 players made it through the day and will join the 150 or so from Day 1A for Day 2. Of the people mentioned above, Grospellier, Alexander and Tom Dwan failed to make it through Day 1B. "The Grinder" played extremly well and accumulated a stack of 216,900 - about 40k less than the chip leader Ashton Griffin (253,700), who is the overall chip leader heading into Day 2.
