Video: MacLean Karr takes home WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star ($878,500)!

Posted on 15 March 2010 by "T".

WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star turned out to be a really interesting and thrilling tournament to follow as many big names made it deep into the tournament. Unfortunately, Scotty Nguyen was sent packing before the final table (8th place - $58,000). The WSOP Legend Phil Hellmuth made it to the final table though, but was the first player to be eliminated (6th place - $117,700).

After that Phil had been eliminated, it was time for another 3 notable pros to leave the tournament, Matt Keikoan, Hasan Habib and Dan O'Brien. This left Andy Seth and MacLean Karr playing heads-up. It didn't take long before both players picked up small pocket pairs and got all their money into the pot. Karr's pocket 8's stood up against Seth's pocket 4's all the way to the river and gave him the win. Maclean Karr, the man who knocked out 3 bounties (Erik Seidel, Greg Mueller, and John Cernuto = $15k extra) and almost was knocked out before the final table, is now the new WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star champion! Congratulations to him!

HighStakes: durrrr finally got his revenge on Isildur1

Yesterday, Tom "durrrr" Dwan and the mysterious Swede Isildur1 played against each other once again. Isildur1 won many million dollars from durrrr last year and was probably planning on winning more in yesterdays session. However, it was Tom Dwan who dominated the game (six $300/$600 PLO tables) and after that they had played about 1000 hands, Tom Dwan had to stop playing due to a massage appointment. The massage must have felt extremely good for him as he won almost 1 million dollars.

Phil Hellmuth is getting closer to his first WPT Title!

Tags: final table, phil hellmuth, poker hall of fame, ulimate bet, wpt.
Posted on 12 March 2010 by "T".

Phil Hellmuth has won and achieved almost everything a poker player can dream of. Just listen to this. Phil has won 11 WSOP bracelets, reached the final table in many major poker tournaments, he has interests and is the face for one of the worlds most popular poker sites, Ulimate Bet. And last but not least, he was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame 3 years ago.

So what is left to achieve? Well, he has never won a WPT tournament and now he has a great chance to do so as he has made it to the final table of WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star together with 6 other players. Phil will bring 1,150,000 chips to the final table today, and only 2 players have accumulated more chips than him, Andy Seth (1,550,000) and Mclean Karr (1,225,000). However, Phil is the one with most routine and skill of the 7 remaining players. My money is on him!

Ultimate Bet cancel Aruba Poker Classic

Posted on 11 March 2010 by "T".

Ultimate Bet has been the organizer of the popular live tournament Aruba Poker Classic for the past few years. This year, however, they have taken the decision to cancel the event and instead put all focus and energy on its online poker section.

For example, they are planning on organizing a monthly tournament with a $500,000 guarantee (today the biggest tournament is the weekly $200,000 guarantee), more satellites to major live tournaments such as WSOP and EPT etc

Event though this might be great news for people who play poker at Ultimate Bet or are planning on doing so -- it still would be nice if the Aruba Poker Classic tournament is back next year again!

Phil Ivey gets $1 million if he becomes a vegetarian

Ever thought of becoming a vegetarian? If no, what if you got $1 million dollars and only had to stick to it for one year? Now it start sounding interesting ha? Well, if you're a good friend of Tom "durrrr" Dwan and have a lot of money, then you might get a crazy prop bet like this one!

In the latest episode of High Stakes Poker, Tom Dwan offered his High Stakes buddy Phil Ivey $1 million dollars if he stops eating meat and fish for a whole year. At first, Phil Ivey wanted $2 million dollars for doing it, but since he had thought about becoming a vegetarian for some time, he decided to accept the challenge.

"I will do it for $1 million dollars. I have thought about becoming a vegetarian for a while now, so this prop bet will make it extra interesting and challenging." said Phil Ivey in an interview with the host of High Stakes Poker, Kara Scott.

Video: Isildur1 wins $800k from Cole South!

Tags: cole south, comeback, full tilt poker, high stakes, isildur1, plo, pot limit omaha.
Posted on 10 March 2010 by "T".

Yesterday, the mysterious Swede Isildur1 and Cole South started playing $100/$200 PLO (Pot Limit Omaha) on several tables. Then they moved on to playing $200/$400 and at last $300/$600. This was probably Isildur1's best session so far against Cole South as he ended up winning about $800,000. It wasn't all about who took down the biggest pots in this session, it was more about Isildur1 playing his very best game.

Its great to see that Isildur1 has been doing so well since the comeback. It seems like he have learned something from the mistakes he did back in 2009, when he played too long sessions and easily went on tilt. Maybe he's playing so good and focused this year because he's staked by someone who gives him expertise coaching (Tony G??!!)?

HighStakes: Tom "durrrr" Dwan won big last week

Tags: durrr challenge, durrrr, full tilt poker, high stakes, tom dwan.
Posted on 09 March 2010 by "T".

Tom Dwan had some great poker sessions last week. And in the end of last week, he had won almost 1,4 million dollars. Another 2 players that did very well last week were Ziigmund and the mysterious Swede Isiildur1. However, both of their winnings almost matched the amount which Tom Dwan won.

Dwan has also been doing very well in the durrrr challenge against Patrik Antonius in the last few sessions. He's now has a lead with $1,755,708 after 33,242, of 50,000 hands have been played.

They didn't do so well last week..
As usual, when some players win big - some have to lose as well! Here are last weeks biggest "losers" - Cole South (-$1,031,983), Patrik Antonius (-$766,477), PixKim (-$756,459), Brian Townsend (-$691,240) and Brian Hastings (-$489,084).

Video: Gus Hansen's worst bluff ever

Tags: bad, bluff, eli elezra, gus hansen, high stakes poker, worst bluff ever.
Posted on 09 March 2010 by "T".

In an episode in season 6 of High Stakes Poker, Gus Hansen, the Full Tilt Pro, tried to buy a pot from Eli Elezra with some really bad bluffing from begin to end. What makes it even worse is the fact that Gus Hansen had absolutely no draws or anything and still he couldn't lay down his hand. The bluff costed Gus Hansen around $100,000! However, its for sure not the last time we see Gus Hansen make a crazy play like this one.

Gus Hansen was after the show interviewed by the host Kara Scott. Kara was of course very interested to know what Gus had to say about the bluff which failed.

"I like my bets on flop and turn, but I hate the ace on the river. And still I decide to make another big bet, which really seemed like an obvious bluff. This is probably the worst bluff I have made in my entire poker career."

Annie Duke takes home NBC:s National Heads-Up Championship!

Posted on 08 March 2010 by "T".

The 64-player starting field at the NBC national Heads-up championship was filled with the biggest names in the poker world today. Even for someone who hasn't followed poker for all that long - most of the players who took part in this tournament must be familiar. Anyhow, even though the starting field was dominated by men, it came to be a women who took down the tournament. Annie Duke played focused, concentrated and showed no fair against any player she was up against from the very first hand she played. However, she had a really, really hard road to walk since she was up against some of the world's best HU poker players.

Anyhow, in the final, Annie Duke was up against the poker legend Erik Seidel who has won not less than 8 WSOP Bracelets. Just like Annie Duke, Erik had played great poker from the very first hand in the tournament. However, Erik had also crushed some of his opponents on the way to the final table (for example: Peter Eastgate - 2008 WSOP Main
Event champ) and earned lots and lots of respect as he proved to be extremely good at playing heads-up.

It came to be the Hungarian Andras Koroknai who took home the WPT LA Poker classic. Andras Koroknai dominated the final table, and when it was time for heads-up, he had a lead with 13,450,000 against his final opponent Raymond Dolan's 1,450,000 stack. With blinds of 75,000 - 150,000 (25,000 ante) it was just a matter of time before Raymond was forced to move all in and try to double up before his stack would be gone. And as expected, it all came to an end straight away

Andras Koroknai moved all in from the button, and Raymond Dolan called with QClub 4Heart. Koroknai flipped over QHeart 8Heart.

EPT Berlin: Many Team PokerStars Pros in the top of the field!

Tags: ept berlin, main event, pokerstars, stefan huber, team pokerstars, william thorson.
Posted on 05 March 2010 by "T".

Day 2 of the EPT Berlin Main Event ended up being a day with lots of action. In seven 75-minute levels, 360 of the 484 who started the day got knocked out. Thats almost three quarters of the field! Many notable players were sent packing this day - Thierry van den Berg, Jeff Sarwer, Noah Boeken, Florian Langmann, Barny Boatman (just to mention a few). However, many of the Team PokerStars Pros can be found in the top of the remaining field of 124 players - Johannes Strassmann (794,500 - 2nd place), Jude Ainsworth (720,500 - 4th place), William Thorson (496,000 - 5th place), Julian Thew (350,000 - 9th place) and Marcel Luske (270,000 - 12th place). Of these Team PokerStars Pros, my money is still on William Thorson to make it the furthest in the tournament.

Leading the field, thought, is young Swiss national Stefan Huber (picture) with 1,087,500 chips. He's for sure going to make it deep into the money if he continues playing this well. However, he will have to fight really hard in Day 3 of the tournament if he want to remain in the lead. Because all the Team PokerStars Pros in the top of the field will for sure switch to the next gear now and aim to build up even bigger stacks, so that they are ready for Day 4 and eventually the final table.

Phil Hellmuth, 45, has won millions of dollars and 11 WSOP bracelets through his career so far. He was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame back in 2007 which confirms what a successful player he is. However, in the past few years - things have not gone Phil's way at the poker table, and every time we hear about him lately - it's usually about him crying out load after a "bad beat". According to Daniel Negreunu, Phil must wake up and realize that poker has changed and that one must adjust to how its being played these days.

VISA blocks online gambling transactions

Posted on 03 March 2010 by "T".

It wasn't long ago since MasterCard announced that they are going to block Americans from making transactions to online gambling sites. Now, MasterCards biggest opponent VISA follows and block their American customers as well. That both the credit card giants VISA and MasterCard have decided to block Americans from making transactions to gambling sites is a clear sign that UIGEA (Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act) will soon come into effect (1 June 2010).

We will have to wait and see how effective the UIGEA law will be since there are a lot of problems which the american authorities need to solve before the law will be effective - in other words, stop americans from finding other ways of transferring money.

HighStakes: Cole South keeps on winning

Tags: Cole South, high stakes, isildur1.
Posted on 25 February 2010 by "T".

Cole South had some very nice results last year - and especially in the end of the year - he could thank the Swede Isiludur1 for that! 2010 seem to be no different than the previous year for Cole South as it has started in the best possible way for him. Last week, for example, he became the biggest winner - $903,000 plus. Other players that did well that week were PostFlopAction (+$688,000), Zigmund (+$676,000), Isildur1 (+$637,000) and Brian Townsend (+$635,000).

2 players that didn't do so well last week were Patrik Antonius (-$924,000) and Brian Hasings (-$1.2 million). However, we can expect these two to be back in business very soon. It will be interesting to see who the biggest winners will be after that this week has come to an end.
