Posted on 15 January 2010 by "T". |
It came to be a quite interesting final table in the high roller event this year. This thanks to Lisa Hamilton who impressed a lot, but also because of the action (from start to end) this final table delivered. All the players at this final table played very good and gave the crowd an entertaining final table to watch. Anyhow, the player that stood out among the rest of the players thanks to his fantastic timing, ability to shifting gears at the right time, and pushing all-in at the right time was William Reynolds. Williams never thought that he would take home the tournament as he was all in and shortstacked lots of times. However, he managed to double up time after time and used his aggressive style until he was the last man standing.
"I feel great! I can't count the amount of times I was all in. I was ready to be on the beach and up in my hotel room." Reynolds said after the win.
Lets hope that we get to see William Reynolds on more final tables in the future because he's quite an entertaining player to watch and learn from.
Final table results: 1. William Reynolds, USA -- $576,240 2. Will Molson, Canada -- $322,075 3. Adolfo Vaeza, Uruguay -- $218,150 4. Michiel Brummelhuis, Netherlands -- $154,350 5. Lisa Hamilton, USA -- $133,770 6. Tobias Reinkemeier, Germany -- $108,045 7. Matt Marafioti, Canada -- $87,465 8. Dmitry Stelmak, Russia -- $66,885

Day 1a of Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia is being played at the moment. 327 players started today - 120 have survived so far. In the lead is Chris Chronis with 155,000 chips, closely followed by Xen Xenofontos (125,000). Chris has had a great run so far in the tournament and its a well deserved lead.
Tony Hachem (Joe Hachem's brother) & Richard Ashby (Full Tilt pro with great live tournament results since 2001) are 2 of the most notable players that still are in the tournament. Let's hope that both of them make it to Day 2 of the tournament, because it's always more interesting to follow a tournament when one recognizes some of the players.

It's time for the final table in the High Roller Event of PokerStars Caribbean Adventure. 8 players have survived the starting field of 84 players (84 players who could afford the buy-in of $25,000) and now they will fight for the first prize of $576,240. None of the 8 finalists are probably familiar names to many people. However, many of them have some great results in the past and are probably players that we will hear much more about in the future.
The most interesting thing about the final table has to be that 1 of the 8 remaining players are girls, which is really impressive as only 9 women took part in the tournament (1 of them ended up in 9th place). The one that will bring the most chips (1,072,000) to the final table today is Tobias Reinkemeier from Germany (picture). Reinkemeier is playing his first ever final table and it's not hard to understand that he's very excited and happy about it.
"I feel really great. I've had so many deep cashes - 11th in London, 23rd in Barcelona, 46th here in the main event - but no final table," he said. "Now I've made it. It's an amazing feeling, especially as I am going in to the final as chip leader, with a big buy-in and a field so strong."
1.Tobias Reinkemeier, Germany - 1072000 2.Adolfo Vaeza, Uruguay - 790000 3.Will Molson Canada - 669000 4.William Reynolds, USA - 482000 5.Lisa Hamilton, USA - 440000 6.Michiel Brummelhuis, Netherlands - 394000 7.Matt Marafioti, Canada - 236000 8.Dmitry Stelmak, Russia - 150000

Posted on 13 January 2010 by "T". |
Vanessa Rousso, 27, has just won the Ladies Event of PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Bahamas. She made it to the final table as chip leader and then nothing could stop her from taking down the tournament and the first prize of $24,725. Even though many of the players who took part in the ladies event had qualified online at PokerStars, Vanessa had to fight hard to reach the final table as pros like Annette Obrestad and J.J Lui were in the tournament as well.
"There were a couple of pros who played. J.J. Lui was in there, Annette Obrestad. There was a bunch of good players. Obviously you have to run well in any tournament you play in. But I didn't make any mistakes that I know of, I played well and I'm happy with the way I played. Starting the year off with a victory is really cool"; Vanessa said in an interview after the victory.

Posted on 13 January 2010 by "T". |
A few days ago, Jonas "Nebuchad" Danielsson, wrote in his blog that he has lost his interest in poker and also the edge when he's playing. These are 2 of the main reasons why he has taken the decision to end his poker career and do something else instead.
"If I take good care of the money I have earned from playing poker, then I probably dont have to work for the rest of my life"; "Nebuchad" writes in his blog.
For many (including myself) it wasn't a big surprise that "Nebuchad" would stop playing poker. I mean, he hasn't played more than a few shorter sessions in the past 2 years. Even his blog has been dead during this time, and when he finally writes something - it's usually about something else than poker.
About "Nebuchad" Jonas "Nebuchad" Danielsson, 25, lives in Stockholm, Sweden. He started playing poker many years ago and turned PRO back in 2005. "Nebuchad" has won millions of dollars playing No Limit Holdem against some of the world's greatest poker players. He was even involved in the world's third largest pot online against Patrik Antonius a few years ago. This was before games at $500/$1000 started. In 2008, he was voted 'player of the year' at the Scandinavian poker awards.

Elky, The Team PokerStars Pro who won last year's High Roller event only has 7200 chips left and is in last place of the remaining 52 players. Elky needs to double up a few times in the beginning of Day 2, because otherwise the blinds (400/800 blinds + 100 ante) will eat up his stack in no-time.

The amFar charity tournament turned out really well this year as the buy-in of $5000 didn't scare off poker pros, celebs and other people from taking part (Slash from Guns 'N Roses, Nelly, Mats Sundin etc). Some of the participants of the tournament even made a few re-buys (PokerStars Pro William Thorson, just to mention 1 player with a big heart). Thanks to so many generous people - not less than $97,500 was donated to cancer research.
The winner of the tournament came to be Spencer Benjafield, an Englishmen who won his seat through a freeroll for players with 'supernova status' at PokerStars. For the win he received $37,500 from the total prize pool of $195,000.

Now, after that 6 days of intensive poker have been played, it's finally time for the final table - a final table with these 8 players who are about to battle for the first prize of $2.2 million.

884 players out of 1,529 players made it from Day 1 a & b to Day 2 of the tournament. In the lead after Day 1 was Wayne Bentley, a PokerStars qualifier from UK. Bentely continued playing good throughout Day 2 of the tournament as he's in 3rd place of the 314 players that will play Day 3. Chipleader at the moment is Praz Bansi with 960,800 chips, followed by Marc-Etienne McLaughlin (702,100) and Wayne Bentely (602,450).
Even though the top 3 players above have accumulated big stacks, they will have to fight really hard to stay in the lead since the remaining field is packed with pros. Daniel Negreanu, Dennis Philips, Phil Ivey, Huck Seed and Johnny Lodden just to mention a few. Day 3 will be the most trilling day so far of the tournament - that's for sure!

Posted on 07 January 2010 by "T". |
A few days ago a hacker managed to overtake Jon "Pearljammer" Turner girlfriend's Full Tilt account. His girlfriend, Tracey "XTraCey" Nguyen had about $30,000 and a lot of player points in the account. The hacker lost all of the cash by going all in every single hand on a $25/$50 NL Holdem table. Turner could just stand beside and watch when all the money was lost, and at the same time the hacker made fun of him in the chat. Turner tried to stop the madness by contacting Full Tilt's support by mail and in the poker chat, but no luck before it was too late.
Here is the chat conversation between Turner and his girlfriend (A.k.A. The Hacker)...

The Main Event of PokerStars Caribbean Adventure in Bahamas started yesterday. Wayne Bentley, a PokerStars qualifier from UK, picked up pocket aces and doubled up against pocket kings in the very beginning of the tournament. After that, Bentley never looked back and kept on building up his stack. At the end of the day, Bentley had accumulated 329,500 chips. Almost 11 times the starting stack.
Notable players that made it to Day 2 of the tournament are (just to mention a few) Daniel Negreanu, Dennis Phillips, Sebastian Ruthenberg, Barry Greenstein etc.
William Thorson and Mats Sundin are two of the biggest names that will play Day 1b of the main event. It will be intersting to see if Mats Sundin is as good at poker as hockey.

Posted on 06 January 2010 by "T". |
Gus Hansen had a very hard time at the poker tables last year as he lost more than $5,5 million dollars, and probably another few millions in sportsbetting. Even though Gus probably can afford to lose this much and still play high stakes, he deiced to take a break and look over his own game. It seems like this break really has paid off, because 2010 has started in the best possible way for "The Great Dane."
Between 1 and 3 January, Gus Hansen has won over $200,000 in less than 600 hands. It seems like he has changed something in his game and is really hungry for revenge. However, it will for sure take a couple of months before we get to know whether or not Gus Hansen is going to be a big winner this year.

Posted on 05 January 2010 by "T". |
The hottest poker news of 2009 were mostly about one player, Isildur1 from Sweden. Isildur1 came from nowhere and won almost $6 millions in a couple of weeks and then lost it all + another $1.5 million in just a few days. After that, Isildur1 had another upswing and was plus for a day or two before he started losing again. Even though Isildur1 lost so much money, many of the world's best poker players praised the young Swede by saying that he is an outstanding poker player who just needs to avoid playing such long sessions and that he should stop playing PL Omaha and stick to NL Holdem instead.
The big scandal Isildur1 made many poker players even richer when his game wasn't at its best. For example, he lost about $4 million dollars in one single session to Brian Hastings, and also a few more millions to Brian Townsend, Cole South, Illari Sahamies, Phil Ivey etc. Shortly after this, Isildur1 disappeared from the high stakes scene and it seemed like it could take long before we heard about the unknown swede again. However, it didn't take long before Isildur1 once again was in the headlines as a big scandal was about to be revealed. It all started after that Brian Townsend got his red pro status removed by Full Tilt for a month because he had used a non-allowed poker program to collect data from the games against Isiludr1. And according to different rumors, Townsend had shared this information with Cole South and Hastings. However, neither of them got punished in any kind of way by Full Tilt. After that Isildur1 got to know about this, he said that he will ask Full Tilt to give back some of the money he had lost, and that he probably wouldn't play at Full Tilt anymore.

"Are you buried in bills? About to lose your home? On the brink of financial ruin? If so, this could be your big break. "Robin Hood 702", a self-made man and expert Blackjack player wants to use his skills to help you"
The text above is taken from a website that belongs to a professional blackjack player with the alias "Robin Hood 702" who wants to give a helping hand to 2 families with financial problems. "Robin Hood 702" will give 2 lucky families a luxury weekend in Las Vegas and at the same time give half of his winnings to them so that they can solve their financial problems. Does it sound too good to be true?! Well, you are probably not the first person to think that thought. However, this website is not a scam, but the real deal as "Robin Hood 702" helped a family last year to pay off their loan of $35,000. After this the website got a lot of attention and also started cooperating with Fox News. Fox News are now helping "Robin Hood 702" with the promotion of his website and they will also document the event with the 2 families.
