durrrr challenge, full tilt poker, patrik antonius, tom dwan.
Posted on 28 January 2010 by "T". |
After a few weeks break, it was finally time for Tom Dwan and Patrik Antonius to continue the battle last night. During 4 hours, they managed to play 1230 hands. Even though it was a quite long session, it wasn't as much action as many hoped for. The biggest pot this night landed on around $120,000 and was won by Tom Dwan. However, it came to be Patrik Antonius who ended up plus $5,983 in the end of the day.
This result doesn't change a lot in the durrrr challenge. Dwan still has a big lead ($878,000) and there is still 19,000 hands to be played. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems like we will have to wait a few more months (at least) before this challenge comes to an end and we have a winner.

Posted on 28 January 2010 by "T". |
Isildur1 probably doesn't need a closer presentation since he was the most talked-about person in the end of 2009 thanks to the millions of dollars he won and lost in no-time. Anyhow, we all know that Isildur1 ended up losing everything he had won, and also that he lost about 2 million dollars from his own bankroll. After this, Isildur1 disappeared from the high stakes scene for a while, and then he returned a few weeks later playing $5/$10 NL. This time, the unknown Swede lost about $400 and didn't seem to care about the money at all (who can blame him?).
Now, after a few weeks of complete silence, he's once again back at the poker tables. But, unfortunately, it's on even lower stakes than last time - $0,25/$0.50 NL Holdem. Isildur1 sat down at the table with $10, which he lost later on after that his pair of kings was beaten by three of a kind 5's.

Even though the action at the high stakes tables isn't the same like in the end of last year when Isildur1 played, there are still some games going on once in a while. Last night, the action was really on at Full Tilt poker when pros like Tom "durrrr" Dwan, Cole South, Illari Sahamies and Patrick Antonius tried their "luck".
Big winners of last night came to be Cole South ($257,000), Illari Sahamies ($436,000), Tom "durrrr" Dwan ($132,000). All of them played quite short sessions, but still made a good profit. In other words, it was a good day at work for all of them.
A player that had a tough time at the poker tables last night was the Finnish poker pro Patrik Antonius. It simply wasn't his night, and nothing went his way (like it did the most of time back in 2009). When he finally decided to give up, he had lost $826 000 in just 434 hands. Even though $826 000 is a lot of money, Patrik Antonius probably isn't crying out loud since he won about $9 million last year.

Posted on 27 January 2010 by "T". |
Phil Ivey, the American Full Tilt Pro, recently finished in second place in the $100,000 challenge of Aussie Millions in Melbourne, Australia. Thanks to the win, Ivey received nothing less than AUD$600,000 ($544,219 U.S. dollars) at the same time as he overtook the first place (earlier held by Daniel Negreanu) in the All Time Money List. This means that Phil Ivey now has won the most money all time. As you might understand - it's not small amounts we are talking about here. Phil has won $12,804,433 through his career.
Phil Ivey - In his own words about the second place finish in Aussie Millions and being on top of the all time money list .
"It's just another poker game. I don't think I'll celebrate too much. I'm just going to go to dinner, maybe have a glass of wine or two and play some poker later"
"I don't really think, ‘oh I'm the best in the world. I just try to perform the best that I can day in and day out."

Posted on 26 January 2010 by "T". |
The final table of EPT Deauville only included 1 really big name, Peter Eastgate, the Danish PokerStars Pro. Peter Eastgate was quite shortstacked when the final table kicked off yesterday and unfortunately he had to leave the final table already 1 hour into the tournament. Almost an hour later it was time for the next knockout. This time it was Michael Fratty who had to leave the tournament after that his pair of queens were beaten by Jake Cody's pocket kings. After this, it didn't take long before Jake Cody took out another player. This time it was the shortstacked player Stephane Albertini who had to leave the tournament as he ran into Cody's pocket aces with his K9.

Posted on 25 January 2010 by "T". |
A new rule was recently inducted into the 2010 World Series of Poker Official Tournament Rules. The new rule says that it's not okay to have a bad smell while taking part in any of the WSOP events. If someone doesn't take care of their hygiene, the tournament staff has the right to tell the player about his bad hygiene, and also take him off the table until the problem has been taken care of.
2010 World Series of Poker Official Tournament Rules: 37 B All participants are entitled to expect civility and courtesy from one another at every Tournament table and throughout the Tournament area. Any individual who encounters behavior that is not civil or courteous -- or is abusive in any way -- is encouraged to immediately contact a Tournament official. This shall include, but is not limited to, any player whose personal hygiene has become disruptive to the other players seated at their table. The determination as to whether an individual's personal hygiene is disruptive to other players shall be determined by the Tournament Staff which may, in its discretion, implement sanctions upon any such player who refuses to remedy the situation in a manner satisfactory to Rio.

Posted on 22 January 2010 by "K". |
During the past week, a total of 122 Mob members stepped up and donated a total of $543 for our Haiti Charity project. Add that to the $500 donated by BankrollMob and the total donation ends up at $1,043!
The money has now been forwarded to CARE through Google crisis response:
CARE plans to start food distributions using stocks of high-protein biscuits from CARE warehouses in Haiti. CARE has 133 staff who are on the ground coordinating with U.N. agencies and other aid organizations to gather more detailed information about the damage and will rapidly scale up response based on those assessments.
We want to thank all of you who took part and donated some of your Mob Points to this charity. Obviosuly we hope that we don't have to organize a similar fundraising in the future.
If you wish to make further donations, you can find more information at the Google link above.Read more » Mob Members Help Donate $1,043 To Haiti

Posted on 22 January 2010 by "T". |
Believe it or not, however, it's the real deal! T.J. Cloutier, or someone else, is selling the braclet he received after winning the $5k No Limit event in 2005 WSOP. The starting bid for the bracelet is only $2,9999, but one can expect the final bid to be much more than that. The bracelet should have an invaluable value since it was won by T.J. Cloutier who has won 6 WSOP bracelets and won more than $10 million in live tournaments. Why he's selling the bracelet remains unclear. Let's hope that we get some answers very soon, because it would be really interesting to know.

Posted on 21 January 2010 by "T". |
Yesterday the Main Event of EPT Deauville started. A remarkable field of 339 players took part in Day 1a of the tournament. The tournament organizers believe that Day 1b, which starts today, will see a bigger number of participants. In other words, it seems like there will be a huge prize pool this time.
Anyhow, even though Day 1a attracted a lot of players, there were not many familiar faces. In the lead after Day 1a is Robert Cezarescu. He will bring 216,900 chips with him to Day 2 of the tournament. On 2nd and 3rd place are Vladimir Geschkenbein with 155,000 chips and Martin Kabrhel with 152,200 chips. 198 out of 339 players made it to Day 2 of the Main Event.

Lots of people all over the world have been very helpful the past week by giving money to the people in Haiti. And as always, when it comes to giving a helping hand to people that really needs it - lots of poker players around the globe have once again showed how big hearts they have. Take PokerStars for example. They started a Haiti fund almost straight away and promised to match the amount their players were willing to donate. So far, almost $480,000 has been donated (11 days to go before the fund is closed).

Posted on 19 January 2010 by "T". |
Steven Gedney, 52, from Dover, Delaware went to Atlantic City to play poker at Caesars Casino not long ago. Like all other players who went to play poker at the casino that day, Steven hoped to win some money and to have a good time. However, he couldn't never imagine that he was about to win a lot of money - with the "losing" hand.
Steven Gedney had 4 of a kind 3's and hoped for his opponent, Dobrzanski, to have one of the aces on the table. Steven and Dobrzanski both went all-in. Steven showed his hand, and to his surprise, Dobrzanski had 4 of a kind aces. Steven Gedney realized after a few seconds of thinking that he was the big winner (and not his opponent..) and that he was about to get a large piece of a huge bad beat jackpot. Steven Gedney received not less than $276,979 from the jackpot. Dobrzanski who had the winning hand got $138,489. The rest of the players at the table also had a reason to be glad for Steven and Dobrzanski as they also got $20,000 each from the jackpot.

2010, gus hansen, high stakes, poker, the great dane.
Posted on 19 January 2010 by "T". |
Gus Hansen had a really thought time last year. In total he lost about $5.5 million dollars. 2010, however, has started in the best possible way for the Dane. Even though there are almost another 2 weeks to go of January, he has already won about $800,000! Thanks to this great achievement, he's now the player who has won the most this year. If Gus continue playing this good, it's very possible that he gets back on track and makes up for money he lost last year.
Tom Dwan keeps on losing Not all high stakes players have had as good start of the new year as Gus Hansen. Tom "durrrr" Dwan is one of them. Dwan has lost $365,000 so far and it seems like he needs to take a break and look over his own game before he can become a winning player again.

Posted on 18 January 2010 by "T". |
The Main Event of Aussie Millions became a huge success this year as not less than 1143 players took part and created the largest Australian championship poker tournament field in history. After Day 1 a b c, Day 2 & 3 had been played, Matthew Ephraums and Brandan Edmonds were the 2 remaining players who were going to fight for the first prize of $200,025. At this point, both of them had equal stacks and plenty of chips to play with. In other words, it seemed like it would take all night before a winner could be crowned. Edmonds took the lead almost straight away thanks to his aggressive style of playing poker. But it didn't take long before Ephraums striked back and took half of Edmonds stack. All thanks to this great read.
Ephraums raise 400,000 on a 2 Q 10 flop. Edmonds calls.
Turn is 4 and Ephraums bet 600,000 and Edmonds called again.

Day 1b of Aussie Millions has now come to an end. 60 out of 357 players from Day 1 a & b have now made it to Day 2 of the tournament. Tomorrow its time for Day 1c of the tournament. Day 1c will probably have the highest amount of entries, and will probably also include the most interesting starting field so far. For example: Swewart Scott, Lee Nelsson and Tony Bloom (ex-Aussie Millions Main event champions) will play Day 1c of the tournament.
Top 5 players of the 60 players who already are through to Day 2 - Jim Mastorakos (174,700), Dean McIver (155,800), Kerry Stead (131,700), Thrung Tran (130,100) and Sarvesh Pershad (129,00)
